Outwell Earth 5 Weekend Tent Review

The Outwell Earth 5 is a great little tent for those impulsive summer weekend getaways.
You can get large tents that are ideal for family camping holidays, but they can be too big and take too long to set-up if you are only staying for one night over the weekend.
If you only have a big tent it can be worth getting an additional smaller tent that’s quick to pitch, doesn’t take up much room, and can easily be put in the boot of your car.
And as it’s smaller, you’ll take less stuff, so setting up camp and packing away will be quicker too – which is just what you want when you don’t have as much time at the weekends.quick impulsive summer camping weekends
The Outwell Earth 5 is designed for those quick impulsive summer camping weekends when the sun makes an appearance and you just want to get away quickly without much hassle.
Can a family really fit in such a small tent?
So to put the theory to the test, the guys over at Camping World sent us over an Outwell Earth 5 tent.
We’re a family of 5, complete with all the gear that a family usually takes camping. We were up for the challenge! We were up for the challenge!
Outwell Earth 5 Tent
Our video below will give you a good idea of what the Outwell Earth 5 looks like.
Using the Outwell Earth 5 Tent
Although first impressions are of a smaller dome tent, there’s actually quite a bit of space inside.
There’s only one bedroom, but we were all able to share it no problem. After all, you’d typically only be using this tent for one night.you’d typically only be using this tent for one night
In the front part of the tent, there was enough space for our bags.
The tent comes with a groundsheet that you can optionally place in the front of the tent.
Pitching the Outwell Earth 5
This is a really simple tent to pitch, with just 3 tent poles.
One tent pole is slightly different. This is marked with a red tape and you insert it into the sleeve on the tent with the corresponding red material.
This tent uses the Outwell Durawrap tent poles, with are thicker than you’d find on many similar tents of this size and price range. Outwell also include one spare tent pole section, just in case one gets accidentally broken.

Getting to and from the campsite
Compared to the normal tents we take, even for weekend tents, the Outwell Earth 5 was a breath of fresh air when it came to transporting things to the campsite.
We normally take a packed car and fully loaded trailer. We were able to go camping and leave the trailer behind for the first time in years.
Summertime Camping
This is an incredibly good priced tent from Outwell, but unlike some of their much bigger tents, this is really aimed for those dry summer weekends, when the forecast promises warm sunny weather and you just want to get away as easily as possible.
To give it a good test though, we took it away on a very windy and wet weekend in March!!! 😐we took it away on a very windy and wet weekend in March!!!
With all the rain coming down, we did notice a few drips coming in around the zip in the side door. This was easily fixed for less than £5. Click here to find out how to fix issues like this.
Our Verdict
We really like the Outwell Earth 5, and it’s perfect for what it’s intended to do.
It gets the thumbs up from us as another good option for families wanting a quick and easy summer weekender tent.
- A great little tent that can accommodate a family 5, that's quick and easy to pitch, and ideal for one-night weekend camping.
- During strong winds and rain, we did notice some drops of water coming in around the side door zip. This was easily fixed for under £5 though.

Vicky French –
Does anyone know is the Outwell Earth 5 the same as the Outwell Prescot 5?
Gav Grayston –
Hi Vicky,
Yes, looking at the 2017 specs for the Earth 5 and Prescot 500 they look exactly the same tent, just in a different colour.
Hope that helps.
Vicky French –
Thanks Gav for the reply ?
