Our Review

The Outwell Avondale 5PA is packed full of features.

This tent is large enough for a family camping holiday, with plenty of room for bags and furniture.
However, it is not too large, making it practical to camp for a night or two at weekends.

We think this tent is ideal for:

• One parent with three children
• Two parents with two children

Practical Tent for Families

One of the things I like about this tent is the built-in porch.

This provides plenty of space to get in and out of wet boots and coats without getting wet inside your tent.

The main doors also have the magnetic Quick and Quiet mechanism.
This means the doors will close without having to zip and unzip (though they do have a zip if you want to prevent little ones from escaping!).

The great thing about this mechanism is that it is attached to bug mesh, so on a hot summer day, you can come and go with a self-closing bug mesh, helping to keep flies out of your tent.

But if you want maximum airflow in this tent, you can unzip the doors and roll them back completely.

The Bedrooms

The layout of the bedrooms is one larger three-person room and a smaller two-person room. However, you can remove the divider between the bedrooms to create one big family room.

The larger bedroom door also has a Quick and Quiet magnetic closure.

The bedrooms are darker for a better night's sleep, but you can unzip the blinds within the bedroom to let in more light.

The main bedroom can receive a power cable, and storage pockets are in both bedrooms.

The Living Space

The living space spans two sections of the tent, providing plenty of space for storage furniture and enough room to change the kids, etc.

The windows are darkened to provide extra privacy, and you can toggle up the blinds all or part of the way to block out the lower half and leave the top open for more light.

There is also a side door, which can help let in more air on a hot day. This door has a bug mesh, too, so you can open the door but leave the bug mesh in place. This is a great way to cool down the tent.

There is also a small zipped opening to run a power cable in for an electric hook-up.

Pitching

The Outwell Avendale 5PA is an inflatable tent.

Apart from a pole over the porch, there are no tent poles to mess around with.

The tent pegs are also colour-coded to help with pegging out.

Although you can pitch with just one person, unfolding the tent and putting it in position is easier with two adults.
But it's not impossible to pitch as a single parent. It just takes a little longer.

Note that if you are pitching it yourself, the tent weighs around 30kg, so you need to be able to lift and move that weight in a bag that's just under 1 metre long.
