Our Score: 9.2/10
We've given the Outwell Stonehill 7 Air the Thumbs Up award.
The good
- A perfect family tent design
- Includes a built-in porch with a useful wet-dry zones
- The new J-Doors offer no-trip entrances. Ideal foryour kids (and you)!
- Excellent sized living space. Plenty of room for furniture and using the space.
- All vents and doors have bug mesh, so you can cool the tent down while keeping the flies out.
- Designed to make it easy to route a power supply, including into the bedrooms.
- Well-ventillated darkened bedrooms with practical layout options. The main bedroom door has the excellent Outwell Quick & Quiet design.
The not so good
- This is a large tent. Check you have enough space to store at home and transport it to and from the campsite.
- Due to its size, it might be a bit of a hassle for just a single night's camping. This is better for longer stays of 2 or more nights.

Our Review
What a fantastic tent!
I really like the Outwell Stonehill tent design. It's perfect for family camping holidays.
...perfect for family camping holidays.
The New Outwell J-Door
New for 2024 is the J-Door, which I think is an excellent feature.
This new door, which looks like an upside-down letter 'J', is the main 'front door' that separates the built-in porch of the tent.
We've been using Outwell tents with a big front door that can fully open up the porch on the tent.
However, we tend always to leave one side of the door fixed and open the other half.
This new J-Door works perfectly for how we use the porch area, providing a permanently screened and sheltered area with easy access.
No Trip Entrance
In addition to the practicality of this new J-Door, it also has a no-trip entrance.
If you've taken young kids camping, you'll know tents can provide tripping hazards.
When our kids were younger, any tent with a lip over the main door would always be caught by one or both of their feet!
you don't need to worry about tears each time they try to go in and out of the tent
With this tent, you don't need to worry about tears each time they try to go in and out of the tent.
Wet-Dry Zone
The porch area provides a wet-dry zone—another must-have feature for family camping.
A wet-dry zone—another must-have feature for family camping
In this area, everyone can change into and out of muddy boots and wet coats, sandy swimming costumes, or salty wetsuits.
This helps keep your inner part of the tent clean and dry. (And yes, I recommend you get the Outwell Cosy Carpet for the central inner part of the tent).
Practical Living Space
The main central part of the tent is the main living space.
This is a generous size (2 tent sections) of the Outwell Stonehill 7 Air, so there is plenty of space for camping furniture.
Remember, if you put a kitchen inside your tent, don't use hobs with flames. Instead, use an electric kettle, hob, and toaster.
You should find enough space in here to help change the kids, store dirty and clean clothes, and prep and eat food (if the weather isn't good enough outside)... though if possible, eat food in the porch as it will be less mess to clean up 🤣
This area of the tent also has an additional door.
We tend only to use the side door when loading and unloading items from the tent.
What the door is very useful for, is providing additional ventilation on hot days, as you can leave it open but with zipped bug mesh covering it, so you can have a nice through breeze.
You also have bug mesh on the porch wall that separates the living space.
Large Flexible Bedrooms
The darkened bedrooms are larger than 'standard' tent sizes.
You also have the option of keeping the dividers in place, or rolling them up to create one large family tent.
We found that rolling up the dividers sometimes provides the best bedroom layout.
But if you have young kids, a divider can help if they go to bed long before you do.
As with other parts of the tent, the bedrooms have good ventilation.
Tents must have good ventilation in the bedrooms as when we sleep, we breath out moisture. The moisture can build up to condensation on the inside of the tent.
You can also run a power cable into the bedroom, which is ideal for additional lighting and charging your phone at night.
Verdict
This tent is ideal if you are planning a family camping holiday (i.e. away for more than 2 nights), and you are a family of four or five.
A perfect family holiday tent for a family of four or five.
If you have a smaller family, there is an Outwell Stonehill 5 Air - a slightly smaller version of this tent.
