The Outwell Padres is a new range of Kitchen Table/Storage units that Outwell have introduced in 2016. We put the Padres XL to the test.
We’ve always found that when camping multiple nights with the family, a good place to store and prepare food makes all the difference.
If you don’t have much other camping furniture, getting a decent family kitchen unit should be high on your list.
We’ve been using Outwell kitchen units for quite some years now. Even when nearly wild camping, the ability to pop up the kitchen unit and store all the food, pans, etc., just helps keep things tidy and off the ground.
Last year we reviewed the excellent Drayton kitchen unit, with its built-in sink and utensil storage. Well, this year has done it again, with their new Outwell Padres XL unit.
The first thing you notice about this kitchen unit is the bamboo top. I really like the look of this. Plus, bamboo is quite a hard wearing material too.
Easy to Put Up
the less time spent setting up camp, the more time you can spend enjoying it
The legs on the Padres XL pop-up. This mechanism is similar to the Outwell Lucia storage unit we’ve reviewed in the past, though I was pleased to see that they’ve done serious re-engineering to make the joints stronger.
What this means is that you get a big storage unit that is very quick and simple to put up, which is very welcome, as the less time spent setting up camp, the more time you can spend enjoying it.
There are two cupboards for storage, each with two shelves. The storage area has a mesh vent keeping the storage area dry, making it ideal for storing food.
A neat design on the Outwell Padres XL is that you can remove the middle shelves, making it easy to store something taller if you need to.
You do this simply by unzipping the upper shelves.
On top of the Padres XL are slots for a stove windshield, which comes supplied. Of course, this fits neatly around an Outwell Chef stove, though will work with other stoves too.

There are slots at the back of the windshield that you can route your gas cable through, keeping it safely away from the cooking area and out of sight too.
To the right of the unit is a pull out rail, complete with some hanging hooks.
Now this could be ideal to hang a tea towel and other utensils, but where this shines, is that it is designed to be the exact dimensions for the Outwell Collaps Kitchen Sink.
Safety Note: If you have kids whose head-height is the same as where the hooks are, we recommend you don’t put the hooks on, or if you do, hang the hook so that it points inwards.
Outwell Padres XL vs. Drayton Kitchen Unit
In the table below we compare two fantastic kitchen units from Outwell.
Both are similar sizes. The Drayton comes with a sink; the Padres XL has a Collaps Sink support.
The Outwell Padres XL comes with a gas stove windshield; the Drayton doesn’t.
I think this is a great design feature. In one easy-to-put-up unit, you have storage, cooking, preparing, and cleaning.
It certainly gets the GOWTK Thumbs Up award as a great bit of family camping kit.
Credits, Thanks, and Disclaimers: We’d like to thank Outwell for sending us an Outwell Padres XL unit that we requested for a review.
