So, if space is a premium, this chair won't take up much of it.

### Assembling

This chair goes together like many Robens chairs we've tested.

The frame consists of aluminium poles that slot together.

You then stretch the seat over the top of the frame.

Fitting the seat over the frame is the most difficult part, as you can see <a href="https://youtu.be/2y38XST7pNI" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">in our video</a>.

### Comfort

How comfortable is always subjective, but here's my point of view. 

The chair is OK. It's not uncomfortable, but it's not the most comfortable. 

The fabric feels like many other premium Outwell camping chairs, so it looks and feels more than a basic lightweight chair.

It's a bucket seat design and hugs you quite closely, which you may or may not like.

A good touch is the removable head pillow/cushion.

We thought it would be a good idea to compare this chair with the very comfortable Outwell Yellowstone Lake.

Comparing the packs of the two chairs, it is clear how much smaller the Outwell Tryfan is.

The larger Outwell Yellowstone Lake is the more comfortable chair. 

The other thing to note is that the Outwell Tryfan RRP is more than the Outwell Yellowstone Lake. 

However, shop around. When writing, we found the Outwell Tryfan much cheaper than the RRP.

This chair packs down small, is lightweight, and easily fits into your car boot.  

However, size comes at a premium price. So what's it like?

I've found using the Outwell Yellowstone Lake extremely comfortable.

It has a padded fabric cover, and if you lift the arms, it reclines 😀

### Pack Size and Transport

The Outwell Yellowstone Lake's pack size is 26 cm x 19 cm x 92 cm. So you'll need plenty of transport space to take it, but it's not as big as some other large camping chairs when folded.

It comes with a carry case, complete with a shoulder strap, and weighs 6.2 kg.

### Putting it up

This chair is very simple to put up. It simply unfolds.

You can get this chair up very quickly... though top tip: Don't put it up immediately when setting up camp as someone will sit in it and not help out! 😆

### What's missing

The one thing I found missing from this chair is a drinks holder. But otherwise, this is a great chair and gets the thumbs up.

I saw the new Outwell Magante camping kitchen unit at the 2023 season launch at Outwell and thought it was a fantastic evolution of a series of camp kitchen units that have just been getting better and better.

So, naturally, I thought this would be a great item to review and show all of you. 
Fortunately, Outwell agreed to send me a press sample 👍

It has since been made a winner of the 2023 Camping Awards, so I'm not the only one who thinks this is a great bit of kit.

### Using the Outwell Magante Kitchen Unit

We've used the Outwell Magante on a few camps now, and it's proving to be a very useful. 

It comes in a large travel bag about the same size as other Outwell kitchen units (such as the Outwell Drayton), so it was a simple swap out in our camping gear.

However, it's got several improvements and additions.

### Setting Up

One of the great things I like about this kitchen is that it is very simple and fast to set up when you get to the campsite. 

The legs and cupboards fold underneath, and once unfolded and attached, open up the top to reveal the fold-out shelves and magnetic knife block. 

You can also fold out a support for the washing-up bowl!

### The Cupboards

The cupboards on the Outwell Magante are a generous size and have an air vent (with bug mesh) at the back so you can store fresh produce. 

With the magnetic doors on the cupboards, opening and closing them is so much quicker than the older zipped cupboard doors.

### Our Problem

Our unexpected problem was that the magnetic knife block had become unattached.

If you open your new kitchen, and this happens to you, you can take it back to the camping shop (UK consumer law means you should either get your money back or a replacement). 

However, as ours was a review sample sent out to 'press', we had no shop to send it back to 😂

*Fortunately*, this sort of thing is easily fixed. So, if the same happens to you after some time, watch our video below on how to fix it.

The Outwell Magante kitchen unit has proved extremely useful and practical, with many features.
Yes, we had a minor problem with the magnetic knife block (easily repaired), so I will mark the quality down. But otherwise, this has been sturdy while camping.

The Outwell Domingo cabinet is perfect for the living space in our big family tent. 


The magnetic doors are much more practical than doors with zips, and so much easier to tidy up and close the doors to hide everything away.


There are also handy hooks, which we found helpful for hanging some towels or small coats. Fortunately, these hooks have protective caps to help avoid accidents. Plus, there's a handy storage pocket on the side. We found this helpful in keeping torches where they are quick to grab and easy to put away.


Once you've put it up and packed it away a few times, it's really easy.

As you can see, this is a very quick cabinet to set up.

We found it an ideal cabinet for the bedroom, but it's also a good height for a side table.

The magnetic door makes it much easier to get in and out of and also makes it quiet, which is another great feature if you have this cabinet in the bedroom.

The Outwell Cayon Cabinet is a neat little package that's quick, easy to put up, and simple to use due to its magnetic door opening.

There are essential camping items and non-essential items, and the Outwell Kimberley is non-essential. However, it is a very convenient and smart piece of camping furniture :-)

Think of it as a small round coffee table for your tent or while sitting outside. And with its bamboo top, it looks and feels very up-market and adds a bit of glam sophistication to your tent.

## Pack Size and Setting Up

The Outwell Kimberley comes in a practical Outwell carry and storage case.

I've always found these Outwell bags handy for keeping items clean, making them easy to transport.

Setting up the table is very straightforward.

Unfold the legs and the tabletop, then make sure the legs are locked into place.

## Using the Table

The table is just the right height to place things you want to hand when sitting in chairs—drinks, snacks, books, games, toys, etc.

Of course, it's not a table everyone can sit around and eat at.

For small kids, the Outwell Kimberley might be a good height for drawing or playing at, but not if you have toddlers that pull themselves up on furniture, as the table will tip over if they put their weight on it.

## Verdict

This is a welcome addition to our camping kit. We may not take it for just a quick single night's camping, but when we're staying longer and in a larger tent, this is on the list to take. We all found it to be a great bit of kit.

The Outwell Kimberley is a handy side table for camping. And it looks very smart too.


This is a premium item to glam up your tent. It looks fantastic and is very practical, but it comes with a price tag.

One of the great things many of us like about camping is the social aspect.

There is more opportunity to sit around and chat without the usual distractions (TVs, Xboxes, etc.). That might be with friends, extended family, or just in your family unit.

And though we *could* all sit on the floor, the camping chair is the defacto tool you need for this! ;-)

We've <Link href="/product-category/camping-gear/furniture/">reviewed many camping chairs</Link> over the years, from<Link href="/reviews/outwell-grenada-lake-chair/"> the big and luxurious</Link> to <Link href="/reviews/robens-pilgrim-navigator-chairs/">the small and lightweight</Link>.

A new chair I spotted this year is the Outwell Catamarca. It looks like a regular camping chair, but it's a double. But is it any good? Fortunately, <a href="https://www.outwell.com/en-gb/ecommerce/camping-furniture/catamarca-sofa-black" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Outwell agreed to send me one</a> to have a closer look :-D

## The Outwell Catamarca

The Outwell Catamarca has two seats, just like a regular folding camping chair. I admit a double-seated chair is not amazing. However, what caught my eye, is that when folded, this double seat is a very similar size to a regular folding chair.

### Making more space in your car boot

Camping chairs take up much space in your car boot or camping trailer. Especially if you need a lot of chairs. We've been using <Link href="/reviews/robens-pilgrim-navigator-chairs/">the smaller lightweight Robens chairs</Link> for many camps as they are easier to fit in the car.

However, since the Catamarca is not much bigger than a regular folding chair, you can get more *bums on seats* for less car boot space! :-)

This is why I thought this chair looked particularly interesting to us family campers. Two Catamarca chairs will not take up much more space than two regular camping chairs, but instead of just seating for two, you will have seating for four.

### Comfort and using the Outwell Catamarca

Comfort is very subjective, but in my view, the chair feels like a regular camping chair. Not an uncomfortable one, mind you, but one you can easily sit on without complaints. Outwell, call this the Catamarca Sofa. I wouldn't say it's as comfortable as a sofa, but it's good for a folding camping chair. :-)

In each arm, you'll find a can or bottle holder. Now, on some cheaper chairs, I found that a full can or bottle could be catapulted out from the chair if you sit down too fast. Fortunately, this wasn't the case with the Outwell Catamarca, and it didn't eject your drink when someone sat in the seat next to you.

For us, the chair is plenty wide enough that you do not feel squashed together when two sit it in. It is like a regular good-sized camping chair, but just as a double.

### Practicalities....how easy is it to set up and fold away?

Simple.
Easy.
No instructions required.
It is very easy. Just take it outs its carry case (which comes with a shoulder strap), and the chair easily unfolds. There's no clipping anything into place. Just unfold and sit.

Putting away is just as easy :-)
When folded the pack size is just 24 x 17 x 96 cm.
For comparison, the <a href="https://www.outwell.com/en-gb/ecommerce/camping-furniture/catamarca-black" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">single-seat version of this chair</a> is 15 x 14 x 86 cm.

### The downsides?

Well, being for two people, it does have more material and metal legs than carrying a single camping chair, and so is a little bit heavier at 5.4kg. Not too heavy, but you'll notice the difference compared to single camping chairs. And although the bag does come with a shoulder strap, you might not want to walk too far with it.
The RRP is £69.99, so a bit more expensive than just a single seat. It could be more expensive than two single seats! So you save on space, but not on money. However, shop around, as you can find the Catamarca Sofa for less than the RRP.

## Verdict?

The biggest downside is the cost, but if you can get a good deal, one or two of these chairs could save you space and make life easier when setting up camp, so we've given it the Thumbs Up Award.

A bedside table may sound like an extravagant use of space in your tent, but if you've set up a bedroom with camp beds for your camping holiday, such storage may prove very useful. And fortunately, the Outwell Barmouth won't take up a lot of space in the boot of your car either :-)

Putting the Outwell Barmouth bedside table is so easy.

The main unit simply pops up, and then you fasten the zip on the back of the unit so that it keeps its shape.

Each drawer simply unfolds, and then you place the drawer base insert inside them.

## Is it flimsy? Just how practical is it?

This is just folding furniture, so I would not recommend placing much weight on the top.

A lantern and other lightweight items, like your phone or a book, are no problem.

The bedside table is 50 cm high when put together. An ideal height if you have a camp bed.

Each drawer can take a maximum load of 2 kg, and the unit has an impressive 40 litres of storage space.

## Verdict

I've used this a couple of times so far. The first time, we used it the large bedrooms Outwell Hartsdale 4PA tent with the camp beds. It was a cold night, and we placed <Link href="/reviews/outwell-katla-heater/">the Outwell Katla heater</Link> on it.

The next time we used it was as additional storage in the Easy Camp Match Air 500 tent. This tent has smaller bedrooms, so the Outwell Barmouth was placed just outside the bedrooms. This was fine, as we were sleeping on mats on the ground.

Overall, I think this is a practical storage solution. I like how it folds flat and takes up very little space.

I would use this as supplemental storage. You'll still need a larger and more sturdy storage unit for a long family camp.

The other negative is that it doesn't come with a storage bag. I keep it in one of the plastic bags that some other camping gear came in. It certainly would be annoying to get to the campsite only to find you left one of the pieces at home.

Those niggles aside, I think this is a great piece of additional storage that won't break the bank or your car boot! ;-)

The Nain Low Table is a useful little table for camping. Not as a table you sit around and eat, but as a useful little side table when cooking outside, eating outside, or, if you have space, as a bedside table in your tent.
Fortunately, this little table doesn't break the bank, and it won't take up loads of space in your car either. Plus, it's very quick and simple to put together :-)

Some people's view of relaxing (including mine at times!) is lying on the sofa and watching some TV. But what if you're camping?
Well, this inflatable sofa <a href="http://www.easycamp.com/en/Products/camping-furniture/Airfurniture/comfy-sofa" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">from Easy Camp</a> could be just the ticket for lounging in front of the campfire.
We took it to a local back-to-basics campsite (<Link href="/camping/campsites/campsites-in-england/campsites-in-shropshire/coates-farm/">The Coates Farm</Link>), and it proved a great hit with the three kids we had with us.

## Taking the Sofa to the Campsite

We've been using inflatable sofas for a while now, and have reviewed <Link href="/go/easy-camp-movie-seat/">the Easy Camp Movie Seat</Link> in the past.  We take <Link href="/camping/easy-camp-movie-seat/">the Movie Seat</Link> with us in our caravan now, and it's great in our awning, including when <Link href="/travel/europe-caravan/family-beach-caravan/">we took the caravan to Italy</Link>.

Well, Easy Camp have updated their inflatable sofa range, so we just had to try the new version, the Easy Camp Comfy Sofa.

This is both bigger and more like a sofa than <Link href="/go/easy-camp-movie-seat/">the previous Movie Seat</Link>. (The Comfy Sofa is 195 cm wide, 85 cm deep, and a seat height of 3o cm).

One thing I noticed straightaway is that the Easy Camp Comfy Sofa comes with a bag. This is a welcome addition, since a lot of inflatable items can sprawl everywhere when deflated if they don't have a bag.

This sofa does pack down well back into its bag, and so doesn't take up much space to take to the campsite.

## Inflating the Easy Camp Comfy Sofa

Just like <Link href="/go/coleman-comfort-raised-double-airbed-review/">large airbeds</Link>, there's a lot of pumping involved to inflate the sofa.
Fortunately, the kids were more than keen to do it :-)
Another alternative, is <Link href="/go/outwell-wind-gust-pump/">a decent pump that will work off your car's electrics</Link>.

There are three inflation points. Two large quick-deflate valves for the seat and the back rest, and a smaller regular valve for a stablisation piece that stops the sofa tipping backwards.

## Verdict

Whilst this isn't an *essential* camping item, it is a lot fun, a quick way to provide a lot of seating, and the kids love it! It gets the thumbs up from us.

For me, hammocks immediately bring up thoughts of chilling on warm summer days, gently swinging beneath the trees, and listening to the summer breeze and the birdsong.

Unfortunately, the reality is a little different; I'd never get a chance to get in a hammock for some peace without at least one of the kids wanting to climb aboard!

However, when I saw the Havana Double Hammock <a href="http://www.easycamp.com/Products/CampingFurniture/Hammocks/HavanaDouble" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">from Easy Camp</a>, I just had to ask them if I could review a sample. Could this be a family-sized hammock?

## Easy Camp Havana Double Hammock Review

The Havana Hammock arrived in a matching brightly coloured carry case.

We own a traditional webbed hammock that we bought in Mexico long ago. However, getting that hammock out of the bag tends to get in a tangled mess.

Not so with the Havana Hammock, as it is fabric based with only a small amount of webbing.

The hammock is a really good size. We've had two adults in it with no problem.

## Putting up the Hammock

At each end of the hammock is a hefty-sized loop. However, the hammock doesn't come with anything to tie it to. You'll need to find that yourself.

Fortunately, we had plenty of rope to secure the hammock in our garden.


### What if there are no trees?

We don't have trees in our garden to hang a hammock from, so we used some sturdy fence posts.

However, you may not have trees at the campsite if you want to take the Havana Hammock camping.

An option is to get a hammock stand.

I looked into this as I really wanted to take this hammock when we went camping.

The problems I found are:
<ul>
<li>There are not many stands sold without hammocks. The hammocks that are sold with stands tend to be just single hammocks and not the larger family-friendly double size, like the Havana.</li>
<li>Many are fixed and not portable without reassembly, making them not very practical to take camping.</li>
<li>A lot of them are quite expensive.</li>
</ul>

I did find this <a href="http://www.handyhammock.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">portable hammock stand from Handy Hammock</a> but it's outside my budget, and <a href="http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/hammock-stand" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">a search on e-bay</a> didn't find anything either.

So for now, we'll have to use the Havana Hammock in the garden unless we know we are going to a campsite with sufficient trees.


## Getting in the Hammock

Getting in a hammock for the first time always guarantees a few laughs.

The technique is quite easy. Simply plant your backside in the middle of the hammock, then swing your legs and body around.

Though, place the hammock over soft ground, just in case ;-)

## Verdict

We like the Havana Hammock. The only problem we've had is finding suitable places to hang it.

My ask of Easy Camp is to develop a portable folding hammock stand that can be used alongside <a href="http://www.easycamp.com/en/Products/CampingFurniture/Hammocks" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">their range of hammocks</a>, which would make it easier to enjoy this hammock more.

## Why get an inflatable seat for camping?

Inflatable seats became popular with campers a few years ago. However, it wasn't something we decided to get. Buying other things were a priority and, to be honest, I didn't think they would be that useful or practical.
However, my kids changed my opinion.
When we visited <Link href="/news/camping-world-tent-show-2015/">the Camping World Show last year</Link>, we got to try out and compare lots of different camping products, including inflatable seats. And, by far the favourite, was the <a href="http://www.easycamp.com/en/Products/AirbedsMats/Airbeds/MovieseatDouble" rel="noopener">Easy Camp Movie Seat</a>.
Fortunately for us, Easy Camp agreed to send us a sample to review. So here are our thoughts on actually using the inflatable chair.

I was pleasantly surprised at just how practical having an inflatable seat was, especially in <Link href="/camping/tents/inflatable-montana-smart-air-tent/">our large family holiday tent</Link>.

It's a perfect size to sit down the side of our tent, and it didn't get in the way.
In fact, I would say it saved space, as instead of the kids lying on the floor and getting underfoot, they now sat on the Movie Seat.
Or should I say, sat *in* the Movie Seat? The bucket-shaped seats are rather comfortable, and stop you sliding about, as you might get on other inflatable seats.
I think it is this unique design that really appealed to the kids.

Being lightweight, the kids can easily drag it outside and prefer sitting in it rather than some of our other camping chairs.

## Inflating and Transporting

The Movies Seat has two valves.
We used the hand pump <Link href="/camping/tents/inflatable-montana-smart-air-tent/">that came with our tent</Link>, though you could use an electric pump, as long as you don't over inflate.
When deflated, the Easy Camp Movie Seat takes up relatively little space, and so it has been easy to take to and from the campsite.

## Conclusion

We like this inflatable seat and think if you have enough space in your tent, it's worth considering getting for your camping set-up.

It gets the Thumbs Up Award from us.

Outwell Padres XL Review

We've always found that when camping multiple nights with the family, a good place to store and prepare food makes all the difference.

If you don't have much other camping furniture, getting a decent family kitchen unit should be high on your list.

We've been using Outwell kitchen units for quite some years now. Even when nearly wild camping, the ability to pop up the kitchen unit and store all the food, pans, etc., helps keep things tidy and off the ground.

Last year we reviewed the excellent <Link href="/go/outwell-drayton-kitchen-table-review/">Drayton kitchen unit</Link>, with its built-in sink and utensil storage. Well, it has done it again with its new Outwell Padres XL unit this year.

## Fantastic Looks

The first thing you notice about this kitchen unit is the bamboo top. I like the look of this. Plus, bamboo is quite a hard-wearing material too.

## Easy to Put Up

The legs on the Padres XL pop-up. This mechanism is similar to the <Link href="/camping/outwell-lucia/">Outwell Lucia storage unit</Link> we've reviewed in the past. However, I was pleased to see they've done serious re-engineering to strengthen the joints.

This means you get a big storage unit that is very quick and simple to put up, which is very welcome, as the less time spent setting up camp, the more time you can enjoy it.

## Storage

There are two cupboards for storage, each with two shelves. The storage area has a mesh vent keeping the storage area dry, making it ideal for storing food.

A neat design on the Outwell Padres XL is that you can remove the middle shelves, making it easy to store something taller if needed.

You do this simply by unzipping the upper shelves.

## Cooking

On top of the Padres XL are slots for a stove windshield, which comes supplied. 

Of course, this fits neatly around an Outwell Chef stove, though it will work with other stoves too.

There are slots at the back of the windshield to route your gas cable, keeping it safely away from the cooking area and out of sight.

## Kitchen Sink

To the unit's right is a pull-out rail, complete with hanging hooks.

Now this could be ideal for hanging a tea towel and other utensils, but where this shines is that it is designed to be the exact dimensions for the <Link href="/camping/camping-tips/collapsible-cookware/">Outwell Collaps Kitchen Sink</Link>.

Safety Note: If you have kids whose head height is the same as where the hooks are, we recommend you don't put the hooks on, or if you do, hang the hook so that it points inwards.

## Outwell Padres XL vs. Drayton Kitchen Unit

Both are similar sizes. The Drayton has a sink; the Padres XL has a Collaps Sink support.

## Final Thoughts


I think this is a great design feature. In one easy-to-put-up unit, you have storage, cooking, preparing, and cleaning.


It certainly gets the GOWTK Thumbs Up award as a great family camping kit.

The Outwell Padres is a new range of Kitchen Table/Storage units that Outwell introduced in 2016. We put the Padres XL to the test.

Yes, I'm a bit of an Outwell fanboy, but you have to agree that this looks like a great bit of kit.

We try to take a balanced view with the whole germs and kids debate.

We don't want the kids catching something dangerous. However, we also want their immune system to develop properly with 'safe' exposure to bugs.

With eating and food preparation outside, you do have to take sensible precautions.

When we saw that Coleman had introduced a table with an antimicrobial coating, we asked if they had one we could review.

The table they sent through was the large version of their new table.

This camping table is easily big enough to seat four people comfortably, and even six with two people sitting at the end.

Though the table says it folds up on the box, only the legs fold up. For the large size of this table, you'll end up with a table that is tough to transport to the campsite.

Folded, this table is 120 cm long and 80 cm wide.

We have a large car boot and a trailer, which wouldn't fit in either. Because of this, we have only been able to take it to the campsite once.

However, that's not stopped us from testing it out. And so, for the last six weeks, the table has been out and regularly used in our garden.

Out in the rain, out in the sunshine, out overnight, and had all sorts of food and drinks spilt over it.

And it still looks good as new and is easy to wipe clean.

Obviously, without proper laboratory testing, we can't vouch for how well the Antimicrobial coating works, but it certainly has stood up to a lot of use.

So, the only downside we've seen with this table is that the large version could be a bit large to transport to the campsite. However, you might want to look at the smaller versions, which are a more manageable size for transporting.

This year we've had a new addition to our family camping kitchen setup: ***The Outwell Drayton Kitchen Table***.

For years we have been using the very popular<Link href="/product/outwell-richmond/"> Outwell Richmond Kitchen Table</Link>, and while it has been excellent, there were a few design tweaks we would like to make. Well, the new Drayton table includes all of those design tweaks and more.

<ul>
<li>Not quite as long (1m) but deeper so it is now **easier to transport** without sacrificing the kitchen working area.</li>
<li>A solid kitchen work surface that is **easy to wipe clean**. The problem with slatted tables is that food can fall between the gaps.</li>
<li>A **good sized solid sink**. This folds up into the Drayton Kitchen table, so you **don't have to find additional transport space for the sink**.</li>
<li>There are **good storage options**. One very large vented cupboard with a solid bottom. **Big enough for large bottles**. There are also three smaller shelves, all with solid bottoms, which are a perfect height for tins and smaller packets.</li>
<li>There are a **useful rack and a wire shelf above the sink**. We found this a great place for things you want to hand, such as washing up items.</li>
<li>The lid also contains **a utensil rack**.</li>
</ul>

With the Drayton Kitchen Table setup, you certainly feel like you have a proper little kitchen with you when camping.

## The Outwell Drayton Kitchen Table Up Close

Let's take a closer look at the Outwell Drayton Kitchen Table.

The topside of the Drayton Kitchen Table is the rigid sink. This is a very usable sink. You can also fit an Outwell Collaps chopping board over the top of it if you want more workspace.

We place our large water carrier on the work surface with the tap over the sink (see the photo below).
Also, notice how the utensil shelves and rack are used. The handwash and washing up items right above the sink works very well for us.

One the underside of the Drayton Kitchen table is the storage.
The left cupboard is large and can take very tall items. The right cupboard is smaller and comes with three shelves. We find this perfect for plates, tins, and other smaller items we need at the campsite.

## Assembling the Outwell Drayton Kitchen Table

Setting up the Outwell Drayton Kitchen Table couldn't be easier.

The kitchen table comes with a carry case. You simply pull out the table from the case, which is neatly folded up.

From the underside of the folded kitchen unit, you pull out the legs and lock them in place.
The storage unit is already pre-attached and drops down. You have to use the Velcro tabs to secure it to the table legs.
The final step is placing the support shelf on the bottom of the unit. This shelf helps keep the unit rigid and provides support for the base of the shelves.

The top half of the Drayton Kitchen Table is even easier. Simply open the lid, and the sink is already in place, along with the utensil rack and shelves.

## Conclusion

This folding kitchen unit is a very practical solution for camping. It's simple to set-up, simple to transport, and great to use.

If you have space in your camp kitchen, I recommend placing your camping stove on a separate unit and using the Outwell Drayton Kitchen Table as your main workspace and food prep area, which really does simplify and help with cooking meals for your family at the campsite.

We've been using the Outwell Richmond kitchen table for years. We were trying to work out when we bought it. It was definitely a long time ago; may be even heading for a decade.
I think we must have bought one of the first models of the Richmond, and Outwell haven't needed to update it much since its release.

## Why the Outwell Richmond?

There's lots of kitchen units around, so why did we pick the Outwell Richmond Kitchen Table?.
At the time we were very much trying to find the cheapest item that 'does the job'. But after seasons of failed solutions and cheap products that were only used once or twice before ending in the bin, we decided to invest in the Outwell Richmond.
Yes. Invest. This was one of the most expensive purchases we had made on a bit of camping furniture. So was it worth it?
Absolutely.
If you've read much of this website you will know we camp a lot throughout the year. And this table has been with us for years. And it's still going.

## What you get with the Outwell Richmond Kitchen Table

This unit is quite large for a start (122 cm wide, 50 cm deep, and 82 cm high).
It has a large zipped storage area with two good sized shelves. This area has a fine mesh ventilation.
We store cooking pots and food in here (perishables go in the coolbox though).
There is a second large zipped area that you can use to store a <Link title="Choosing a gas cylinder for camping – Which one is best?" href="/camping/camping-tips/choosing-gas-cylinder/">gas cylinder</Link>. Unfortunately the hose to our gas cylinder is too short for that, but we've found this large area a great place to store a rubbish bin, keeping it zipped up and out of sight as well as preventing rubbish blowing around the campsite and helping to keep critters out.
The top of the unit has a large table area.
It comes with a windshield, which can be a God send when cooking. However, some stoves may not fit. We used this with our small single burner stove, but it doesn't work with the larger <Link title="Campingaz 400 ST Review – A wind resistant stove?" href="/product/campingaz-400-st-review/">Camingaz 400 ST Gas Stove</Link> for example.
A small part of the table top lifts up to reveal a small folding sink.
To be honest, this is the only bit of the Richmond that never worked well for us as the sink was too small, that area of the table was better with something on top of it, and we didn't want to splash water over our kitchen.
We now use the <Link title="Take more with less with collapsible cookware" href="/camping/camping-tips/collapsible-cookware/">Outwell Collaps sink</Link>, which is excellent.
A really minor feature but a really useful one is the side pockets, which are great for keeping things like a towel close at hand.

## Putting the Outwell Richmond Together

Another big plus is that the Outwell Richmond is really fast and simple to put up.
Until the recent invention of popup furniture (<Link title="Outwell Lucia – Popup cupboard for camping" href="/product/outwell-lucia/">see the Outwell Lucia</Link>), this table was amazingly quick to put up compared to a lot of other solutions.
Part of the reason for that is there's not a lot to put together. This means that when folded it's still large (123cm x 50cm x 10cm). No problem for our trailer, but something to consider if transport space is tight.
For large piece of camping furniture it's also light at just 8kg.
When you get the Outwell Richmond out of its carry case, you simply pull its legs together and secure with a velcro strap. You can also tweak the feet on the legs to help make the table level on uneven ground at the campsite.
The top of the table simply clips onto the body.
There's some solid shelf inserts that you place inside the unit. It is best to keep heavy items on the bottom shelf, which is a little more supported.

## Protecting from the Elements

We typically set up our camp kitchen outside <Link title="Creating a shelter with the High Peak Tarp" href="/camping/camping-tips/high-peak-tarp/">under a tarp</Link>. This usually protects the kitchen well from the elements and if the wind does get up, I simply get the tarp down (just take out the poles), and peg the tarp over the top of the kitchen until the bad weather passes.
However, I also found that you can get some BBQ covers that fit the Outwell Richmond. We used such a cover when leaving the kitchen in our open-ended awning.

If you are taking away the kids for a long camp break, storage is key to help prevent your tent from descending into a scene of chaos.

Unfortunately, tent furniture can sometimes take up too much space in the car.

This year, 2020, Outwell has introduced some innovative folding storage solutions that look smart, are practical, and fold down small for transporting to the campsite.

And fortunately, Outwell agreed to send me one of these to review: the Outwell Storage low seat &amp; storage.

## Folded

When the Dawlish Seat is folded up, it measures less than 10 cm high, with the sides folded up and stored inside the lid or seat.

## Unfolding

This has got to be one of the simplest pieces of camping furniture to put together. You unfold the sides and slot the base in the bottom, then place the seat on top.

It makes a handy little storage container. Ideal for storing toys! :-)

The total capacity is 22 litres, just under 30 cm high when put together.

## Using it as a seat

The top is cushioned and works as a seat.

It's not very high (there is a taller version of the Dawlish), but it's an ideal additional seat for a child.

## Verdict

The Outwell Dawlish is an affordable and practical addition to your family camping kit.
It gets the Thumbs Up Award.

If plain-old camping chairs just aren't comfortable enough for you, then you might want to check out this new chair <a href="https://www.outwell.com/en-gb/ecommerce/accessories/grenada-lake" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">from Outwell, </a>which is called the Grenada Lake.

## Not just a Camping Chair

This certainly doesn't look like a chair you would find on the campsite. Perhaps it would look more at home in a designer shop!

As you can see, the Grenada Lake looks a lot more comfortable than a regular camping chair. And it certainly is.
With good padding on the seat, the back, and even the sides of the chair.
There's also a handy side pocket for stowing items.

## Setting up the Grenada Lake Chair

This chair is very quick to set-up.
The chair unfolds quickly in a director's style chair. The comfy padding is an additional layer that slips over the top of the char.
It's very simple, and very quick.

## Transporting to the Campsite

The only downside I've found with the Grenada Lake is getting it to the campsite.
It comes with a handy bag that keeps the cushioning clean and with the chair. However, since this chair is so easy to put up, it doesn't fold down very small. The pack size is 60 x 18 x 75 cm and weighs 7.4kg.
It should fit in the boot of most cars, but it will take up a lot of the space.

This is a very comfortable chair that we've been enjoying using this summer. It wins full marks for comfort.
All that comfort does come at a price. If you want a cheap basic camping chair, the Grenada Lake isn't for you. But if you want something more comfortable, and you've got space to transport it, then you'll be pleased with this chair.
It get's the thumb's up from us.

I like these wooden camping tables. They look very smart.

Yes, plastic can be cheaper, lighter, and more practical. But you must admit, these tables look very smart.

And since the wood is made from Bamboo, it's hardwearing, good with water, and eco-friendly.

Unfortunately, a family-sized wooden table could take up a lot of space in your car when you head off to the campsite. This Trekker XL table from Robens is just the ticket: it packs down small, is lightweight, and isn't a bad size when set-up.

Let's look at the details...

## Trekker XL Pack Size

When packed, the size is 100 cm long and 15 cm x 12 cm deep.

It only weighs around 6.5 kilos, so not a heavy item to lift to and from your car.

## Setting up the Table

When you first open the pack, you'll see a sprawling tangle of legs. Don't let this put you off. It's really simple to put up.
Lightweight metal poles simply slot together to make up the legs.

Once you have the legs together, some top supports simply clip on. This is where the wooden bamboo tabletop clips on.

## Using the Robens Trekker XL Table

Once set-up, the Robens Trekker XL is a good size table and measures 60 cm wide and 100 cm long (with a height of 68 cm).
OK, so it's not the biggest of family tables, but it is big enough for four people.
We've found the best layout is a chair at either end of the table and one at each side.

Outwell suggest this is suitable for weights up to 50kg. One thing we found was that the bigger you are, the easier it is to tip out, so worth bearing in mind, especially if you have children of that inclination.

## Overall Verdict

The practical mum point of view - it drys out quickly when it gets wet, as I discovered after I’d left it outside overnight on the first night of our trip.

It pops up really quickly when you really don’t have time to worry about assembling chairs because you’re battling to put the tent up, and, probably best of all, there is little chance of a small person getting their fingers caught in the mechanism.

Camping furniture is usually one of the biggest culprits for filling up your car when you set off for your camping holiday.
Fortunately, adventure camping company Robens has put their experience in developing lightweight and compact solutions to address the problem of the kitchen cupboard: the Robens Walker.

## Assembling the Robens Walker

The Robens Walker is made with corrosion resistant lightweight aluminium - the same <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6061_aluminium_alloy" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">type of aluminium typically used for making aircraft and yachts</a>.
Similar to some of the robens chairs, the supports come together like large elasticated tent poles and slot into a central pole that provides strength to the overall structure.

The body of the Robens Walker is already attached to the frame. You simply clip the top and the bottom onto the legs.

Two more supports slot onto the top, and the bamboo top unfolds and slots into place.

Robens Pilgrim and Navigator Chairs

Camping furniture can be bulky and difficult to fit in your car.
I had seen the Robens Pilgrim chair and asked Robens if I could review it when a reader asked to see a review on the Robens Navigator chair. Fortunately, Robens was kind enough to send both over for a review. :-)

## Robens Pilgrim Chair

The frame is made from lightweight aluminium for both the Pilgrim and Navigator Chairs, and the frame slots together similarly to tent poles.

It's important to note that Robens has used high-grade aluminium, so despite being lightweight, it's strong - the chairs can take up to 120 kg. The aluminium is made with corrosion-resistant alloys, which is exactly what you need for outdoor gear (and something you need to check for on cheaper imitations).

A nice little feature with both the chairs is that their bags have hoops to slide onto the chair frame. This makes a useful little storage bag for sunglasses, suncream, or anything else you want to hand when sitting in your chair.

The chair seat has slots on the underside that slide over the ends of the chair frame.

Once assembled, the Robens Pilgrim Chair has a bucket-style seat, which we all found comfortable.

## Robens Navigator Chair

The Robens Navigator chair assembles similarly to the Robens Pilgrim, with aluminium poles slotting together to make the chair frame.

Unlike the Pilgrim, the Robens Navigator's chair frame is slightly more complicated as the chair has a larger back and extra arm support.

Once assembled, the Robens Navigator chair is slightly different to the Pilgrim as it reclines you more.

It also has a handy drink holder on one of the arms of the chair.

Both chairs are lightweight and comfortable, and both retail for similar money.

However, despite my interest in the Pilgrim initially, we all felt the Robens Navigator chair was slightly more comfortable: it's the one we all try and sit in first.

I found the Navigator a little fiddly to assemble, though, since it has more poles than the Pilgrim chair.

Interestingly, despite the Robens Navigator being a larger chair, it is the lightest of the two chairs tested.
The only downside I see with these chairs is the price. You pay for those lightweight materials and the design that makes a chair fold down small yet remain comfortable.
Fitting out an entire family with such chairs would be expensive. However, if you are struggling to fit everything into your car, then one or two chairs like this might be a good investment.

We test two lightweight chairs that fold down really small: a great way to make space in your car when travelling to the campsite.

Lazy Summer Miramar Hammock

Something about swinging in a hammock brings up images of lazy summer days, chilling in the sunshine.

We've reviewed <Link href="/go/havana-hammock/">a big family hammock before</Link> (and have even <Link href="/camping/hammock-camping/">gone hammock camping</Link>). However, you'll always need something to attach the hammock to.

You can buy special hammock stands if you don't have some trees to string your swinging bed between. However, what if you wanted to take your hammock for lazing around when camping? Most campsites don't have convenient trees next to your pitch that you can string a hammock between, and the manmade hammock stands aren't very portable.

This is where the Outwell Miramar Summer Hammock comes in.

We've been trying this out ...oh, it's a hard life! ;-)

## The Hammock Stand

The Miramar Hammock comes in one carry case, including the folded hammock stand and the hammock itself.

Now, putting together a hammock stand at the campsite is less time spent in the hammock! Fortunately, this is an amazing bit of engineering and easily unfolds into the hammock stand. No assembly is required, thank goodness.

All you have to do is lock the hammock's chain into place.

## The Miramar Hammock

The Hammock is good quality and even comes with a built-in pillow.

It's a good size too. You could easily lounge in it, be invaded by a little one or two, and still have room.

It's also stable, so you're not likely to tip out like some comedy sketch on the TV. However, do watch the kids on it. Our youngest started to think it was a climbing frame and swing. If misused, it will tip someone out.

## The Down Sides

Yes, we like the Outwell Miramar Hammock.

However, there are a couple of downsides. Well, one downside and one niggle.

The biggest problem we've found is that it is still big and heavy when folded. You'd be hard-pushed to fit this in the boot of your car.

For tent camping, we have a fairly large trailer, but I'm not sure I could fit it in with all the other bits we take.

When taking the caravan, it's been OK since it is just one huge trailer. Though, when we don't have the awning on the caravan, it doesn't have anywhere to go.

So that's the biggest problem. Ensure you take note of the weight and dimensions and that you can take it camping.

If you can't, it does still work equally well at home :-)  And with its quick folding mechanism, easy to put up when the sun shines and take down again when the rain appears!

The niggle I mention is that it doesn't swing very far.

I understand why, as swinging too much could cause the hammock stand to tip over.  However, I do like a hammock that swings slightly.

## Verdict

A really good folding hammock solution with a good quality hammock. I found it cheaper than many hammock stands and hammocks on Amazon, yet the Outwell Miramar Hammock folds up much better than those you might need to have permanently in the garden.

The Space Saving Treo

It's always nice to find camping gear that doesn't take up lots of space, especially something like a chair. If you try and take enough camping chairs for a family you can soon fill up your car boot on those alone!
Fortunately, there's a wave of new lightweight chairs that are better than the previous small seating solution: the dreaded three-legged camping stool. We've reported
We've reported <Link href="/camping/robins-pioneer-review/">before on one of the new breed of small camping chairs</Link>, and now there's a new design available, and it's from Therm-a-Rest. It's called <a href="https://www.thermarest.com/ie/catalog/product/view/id/16703/s/treo-chair/category/17/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the Treo</a>.

## A Chair in a Capsule

It doesn't look like a chair on first impressions.

When folded up, it's neatly enclosed in a toughened plastic capsule. This should help it take a lot of abuse when crammed into a car boot full of camping gear ;-)

## Setting Up the Chair

This was a design I had not encountered before and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work it out.
The plastic capsule unfolds to create a base.
Inside the capsule are the supports and the chair fabric.

Slot the supports into the base and slide on the chair fabric to the supports. Job done!

## Using the Treo Chair

The chair is a good size and can easily seat most adults (and kids, of course).
It's also a good height so you don't feel low down.
We found it plenty comfortable when sitting around the campfire.

The only downside I found is that the base could have been a little wider to make it more stable. This was only an issue I found...when I fell out of it. And no, I hadn't had much to drink! ;-)
However, no one else had this problem, and it only happened to me once, so I suspect I hadn't placed it on level ground.

## Packing up the Treo

As you can imagine, packing the Treo away is very simple, just as it was to put it up in the first place.

Simply take the chair fabric off, out the supports, fold everything up, and close it inside the base that turns back into the capsule.

## Verdict


This is a great solution for saving space on all that family camping gear.

It might be a little pricey compared to basic camping chairs, but if you are running out of space to take everything to the campsite, this might be something you want to consider.

You can end up taking A LOT of stuff for family camping. Fortunately, there's a new solution: it's called the Treo.

The Colonist Chair is a full-size seat but is incredibly lightweight, weighing in at just less than 3.3kg. That's not bad for such a large and sturdy chair.
<Link href="/camping/robins-pioneer-review/">We've reviewed the Robens Pioneer chair</Link> before, and the Colonist doesn't fold up as small as that. However, it does fold down to a good size to fit in your car boot, camping trailer, or even a roof box. When folded it is 54 x 48 x 15 cm.

With it being lightweight and easy to carry, you might find the Colonist easy to take on picnics or events such as air shows.
To unfold, you pull up the handles and move the slider on one of the chair legs until it clicks into place.
The chair can take up to 120kg in weight, so for such a lightweight chair, it is quite sturdy.
Another of the little features of this chair is the mesh panel in the back that helps with breathability, which is just what you need if you are sitting in a chair on a warm day.

## Verdict


This is another great product from Robens that can work just as well for Family Campers as Adventure Campers. The Pioneer gets the GOWTK Thumbs Up award.

Taking things to the campsite can sometimes be a challenge. Things like tables and chairs can be particularly bulky.
Fortunately, there is a solution: the Robens Pioneer chair.
I was amazed at how small this chair folds down.

## Using the Robens Pioneer Chair

The Pioneer Chair actually feels like a full-size chair. It's not like those little stools you get, which can get a bit uncomfortable after a while.
Instead, the Pioneer supports your body with a slight recline.
It's also a swivel chair.
I don't know why Robens felt they needed to make the chair swivel but I'm glad they did. If you are sitting around the fire and reaching for things as you are cooking, that little bit of swivel makes things a little easier.

You could also combine it with the excellent <Link href="/camping/wayfarer-table/">Robens Wayfarer Table</Link>, and you've got an outside office!

## Transporting and Setting Up the Chair

The big feature of the Robens Pioneer is of course, how small it folds up.

The folded package is just over 1kg and measures 29cm x 11cm x 12 cm.

You could probably pack four of these chairs into the same space one large camping chair would take up.

The only problem with such a small package is that we found it a little stiff to put together. The legs and supports go together easily enough, but attaching the seat to the frame can be stiff. So far, I'm the only family member who can do it.

We don't just use this chair for camping. It works well for picnics too.

## Alternatives to the Robens Pioneer Lightweight Chair

I have seen a similar lightweight chair from OEX, called the <a href="http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/oex-ultra-lite-camping-chair-p362066" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ultralite Camping Chair</a>.

I've not tested the OEX chair, so I can't vouch if it's good. The OEX chair is cheaper and heavier than the Robens Pioneer chair.  But the OEX chair is fixed and doesn't swivel.

Another alternative is the <a href="http://amzn.to/2eWJpP9" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Helinox Chair One</a>, which weighs even less than the Robens Pioneer at just 940 grams! However, when folded, it is slightly longer. It also doesn't swivel and is more expensive. 



## Verdict


The Robens Pioneer Chair is another innovative product from the adventure camping brand Robens that could easily find a good home with family campers.

It gets the GOWTK Thumbs Up award.

Family camping gear is generally getting larger and larger.
Whilst it is nice to set up a home from home for longer camping stays, where you may treat your tent as a base rather than adventure camping, the amount of gear you have to take is getting ridiculous.

Also, wouldn't it be nice to reuse that investment for a quick weekend camp if you buy something for that family holiday?

Well, Robens is bucking that trend with this gorgeous-looking table that is lightweight and small to transport. It's called the Robens Wayfarer.

If you've not heard of Robens, that may be because they mainly concentrate on adventure camping, where you want lightweight items that can easily fit into a backpack. While this isn't small enough for a backpack, they have brought that lightweight innovation to family camping.

Now, unfolded, it is not a huge family table, but we found enough space for four people. And although you can sit four more comfortably on other camping tables, I'm happy with being a little cosy for the ease the Wayfarer table brings to the campsite.

It's also easy to set up. We've owned some tables that needed a degree in rocket science to put up. Our seven-year-old is now a master at setting up the Wayfarer table. (He loves that this is a grown-up job he can do!).

The Breezy Bed

This has to be one of the coolest camping gadgets around at the moment - Breezy Bed. It's a new product on the market and takes outdoors chilling to a whole new level! It's portable inflatable furniture, but no pumping, blowing involved you just use a breeze to fill it with air.

It's made from waterproof polyester and weighing in at just 1.4kg, it is very light to carry around so that you can chill anywhere.
So how does it work?
It comes in a carry case.  You just take it out of the carry case, unroll it drag it towards a breeze and the bed inflates - simple eh?! To seal, you fold over the opening ( like you would with a dry bag ) and clip together.

We took our Breezy bed on its first adventure: camping. We are used to pumping tents and beds, so we were intrigued and excited to see how the Breezy bed would perform.

The first occasion we used it was a hot day with not much breeze, and we were still able to inflate the bed.
I would say there is a bit of a technique to inflate the bed.  You don't have to run around like mad things ( like we did! )
The advice from Breezy Bed was to take it easy and let the air glide in. It doesn't have to be a particularly breezy day to fill it with air. How much air you inflate it with obviously dictates how soft or hard the bed is.
While perfecting our technique our first attempts resulted in a semi-inflated bed, a bit like a bouncy castle! The kids had great fun with it and thought it was amusing watching me roll off it!
They are extremely comfortable; you can use it as a chair to sit on or as a lounger to lie down on.

According to Breezy bed they stay inflated for approx 5 hrs, we have not put that to the test yet will update this post when we do.

The fact that it is so light means there are many opportunities to use it, pop in your rucksack and take it up a hill, camping, festivals, outdoor events, picnics and parks. You can use it in the garden too.

I like cooking. I'm no chef, but I like cooking.
I like camping too. I therefore really like cooking around the campfire, usually with my <Link title="Dutch Ovens: 5 steps to better camp cooking" href="/camping/camping-tips/dutch-ovens-5-steps-to-better-camp-cooking/">Dutch Oven</Link>.
The problem is, you get to a point in your life when sitting on the ground is not the most comfortable. And when cooking around the campfire, you often need places to put things, such as utensils, <a title="View Hot Gloves on Amazon - These are great for campfire cooking" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004KVFODI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=19450&amp;creativeASIN=B004KVFODI&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=geouwithki-21" rel="nofollow noopener">hot gloves</a>, etc.
The Outwell Bredon Hills chair solves both those problems and was chuffed to bits when Outwell sent us one to review.

## What's it like as a chair?

Unfortunately, some chairs that are sold for camping can be quite uncomfortable. I'm pleased to report this is not the case with the Outwell Bredon Hills.
While it's not a chair for reclining and lounging around (I have kids, so no chance of that anyway!), it's a great chair for sitting around the campfire, preparing food, or watching the sunset.
It's the shape of the classic *director's chair*. I call it the *chef's chair*.

The chair's easy to unfold and fold too. Simply pull the sides of the seat together, and the chair is folded.
It doesn't fold down small, but it does fold down flat (18 x 50 x 85 cm when folded).
You can get it in Outwell Blue, Outwell Green, and Outwell 'Pepper' Black, so it can coordinate with your many other Outwell items.
I've now been using this chair since March, and I'm very impressed. It certainly gets the thumbs up from us as a great bit of kit for family camping.

## Outwell Bredon Hills with Table

The version of the Outwell Bredon Hills here is the one with the side table. It's these extras that set it apart from being a comfortable chair to something really useful when cooking around the campfire.
The side table is a proper rigid surface, not a mesh or fabric 'platform' that some chairs have, so it's great for putting things on, including cups and bowls.
There's a great cup/bottom holder built into the table, which has been working well.
This is a lot better than having a holder built into the arm of the chair, which is what I had on my old chair. Every time you sat down, it would jettison drink over the seat. I'm glad this is not the case with the Outwell Bredon Hills, and Outwell has even designed in drainage holes in case you do have an accident.
On the opposite side to the table, the chair has some useful holders, including a zipped pocket.
This has been invaluable for holding small bits and pieces and means I can keep a lot of utensils to hand, without having to keep getting up and down. Not to mention, having a nice cold can or bottle of something close by too ;-)

I've had a good look at the child version, and it's just as well made as the adult version.
My little lad would love a chair just like Dad, but it's not something we have at the moment (I took the picture above at an Outwell show), but it's certainly something to consider if you wanted to invest in some decent camping chairs for the family.

## Do you need cupboards when camping?

Having a lot of the facilities you have at home can make things easier when camping, but there comes a point when you just can't fit anymore in the car to take to the campsite. So do you really need to take cupboards too?
Well, if you are just camping for one night, then the answer is "no".
And obviously I'm talking about family camping with a car here. If you're backpacking the answer is always no ;-)
However, if you are camping for a few nights or more, a cupboard can be very useful, and is something we've been taking on short camping breaks and longer holidays.
Here's some reasons why you might want to take a cupboard:

<ul>
<li>Living out of a rucksack or holdall is only going to work for so long. When you have all the kid's stuff, going in and out a bag is soon going to end in a disorganised mess.</li>
<li>Nearly every kid thinks that "putting clothes away" means "dumping on the floor".</li>
<li>Even with the best of tents, floors can sometimes get damp. Clothes on the floor could mean damp clothes.</li>
<li>Remember you are camping. If you've had the tent door open you may get the odd bug crawling across the floor, who may decide to make a new home in those clothes on the floor. Can you imagine the screams from your child as a beetle crawls out of their sleeve? Family camping is supposed to be fun. You don't want to put them off.</li>
<li>Sometimes you need somewhere to put things out of reach from small children.</li>
</ul>

We place the cupboard in the corner of our tent near the door. This is a good place as we can easily reach things on top of the unit (normally torches and lanterns) when outside the tent.

## The Outwell Lucia cupboard

The Outwell Lucia cupboard has four shelves. We use this cupboard for clothes storage (you could store anything, but we put our kitchen items in our <Link title="Outwell Kitchen Storer – Keep All Your Bits Together" href="/camping/outwell-kitchen-store/">Outwell Kitchen Storer</Link> and food in our Outwell Richmond kitchen cupboard).
In addition to the shelves, the Outwell Lucia has some side pockets. You get these on a lot of the Outwell furniture ranges and are handy places to put things that you need to easily grab.
The cupboard can be zipped completely to help keep out unwanted bugs, and has a fine mesh at the back for ventilation.
It's a very good cupboard....but that's not all it has up it's sleeve: you can put the Outwell Lucia cupboard up in no time at all.


## Popping up the Outwell Lucia

We've been using a cupboard for years, and until the Outwell Lucia, we had a cupboard unit from a brand (which shall remain nameless) that was anything but quick to put up.
You had to construct the aluminium legs, inserting them into the fabric cupboard. There were lots of different lengths of poles.
I was the only one who could do it, and even then, it could easily take half an hour or more snapping all the bits into the right places.
Having a cupboard was good, but just added considerably to the time taken to set up and take down our camp.
The Outwell Lucia is different.
All the legs are pre-attached, and the whole unit pops up.

The Outwell Lucia comes in a carry case, with the top and bottom of the cupboard sandwiched together.
I've transported this <Link title="Should you get a Trailer or Roof Box? Getting your gear to the campsite" href="/camping/camping-tips/roof-box-trailer/">in the trailer</Link>, but now I tend to just slide the Lucia on the bottom of the car boot when we need to take it. It measures 60 x 60 x 8.5 cm when folded and only weighs 11kg, so if you can fit those dimensions in the car, then it's easy to transport. (It also happens to be the same size as our <Link title="At last. A decent folding picnic table." href="/camping/outwell-marilla/">Outwell Marilla folding picnic table</Link>, so the two stack together in the car).
Once you have unlatched the top from the bottom, you just lift the top and the legs move into place. Push the legs straight to lock into position, then insert the shelves to give it extra rigidity.
Simple.

## Tips for folding the Outwell Lucia

Folding it away is essentially the reverse of putting up, though we have these tips to avoid damaging the legs.
<ul>
<li>Remove the solid shelves and slide them underneath the fabric bottom (or even keep them out altogether, putting them in the carry bag).</li>
<li>Make sure the removed shelves fit neatly under the bottom (if storing with the unit), as you need to leave room for the legs to fold.</li>
<li>Examine each leg joint. You'll notice a black 'button' on the side of the joint. Push that in and then push the leg in the direction it folds (see photo). Take a moment to stop and think so that you don't push a joint the wrong way and damage a leg. (See 'Caution' below)</li>
<li>With each leg unlocked, the top should collapse down towards the bottom. If it's not folding freely you probably have something in the way (check the cupboard shelves have been removed and stored correctly). Don't force it.</li>
<li>Be careful not to bend the catches as you fasten the top to the bottom.</li>
</ul>

### Caution when putting away

Some popup items, such as popup tents or popup bowls, you can push down and they'll fold the way they popped up.
**Don't apply force to the top of the Outwell Lucia to collapse it.** The folding legs on the Outwell Lucia lock into place when upright. If you just apply force to the top of the Lucia, you could force the legs in the wrong direction and break them. Unfortunately for Mat (see comment below), this is what happened to him.

When putting away, push the button on each leg and then push the leg in the direction it should fold. Don't push the leg all the way flat. Just work your way around the Lucia unlocking each leg, and the Lucia will fold flat again.

Folding the Outwell Marilla PIcnic Table Set

***For years, we've not had a decent table for the kids to eat at when camping. But have we found the solution at last?***

As any parent knows, a small kid with a plate of food on their lap is usually only going to end with some or all of it on them or on the floor.

When we first started family camping *many* years ago, we bought one of those folding picnic tables.
What a disaster.
We got through three of them in the end, all from different brands.
All of them broke in the same way: their legs buckled, twisted, and collapsed in on themselves. (And no, I'm not that heavy!).
The idea is great: a table that folds into a small lightweight carry case that contains chairs too. Unfortunately, too many of these are just rubbish.
So for the last decade we've been sitting with food on laps, on floor, or on tables we use for cooking where the large camping chairs don't fit properly.
In a word: awkward. Or another word: lots of mess.
However, I think we've at long last found the *right* folding picnic table: the Outwell Marilla.

## Outwell Marilla

This year Outwell brought out a range of furniture with bamboo tops, which look absolutely stunning.

It makes a nice change from all the aluminium and plastic. Plus, unlike many other types of wood, bamboo is lightweight and very hard wearing and doesn't go all funny as soon as you splash it with water. Perfect.
One of these new items they introduced is the Outwell Marilla folding picnic table set.

It does exactly what we originally wanted: a nice folding table to eat at that includes seats. Plus it is well made. Plus it's bigger than the old plastic folding picnic tables. Plus it looks great. :-D

The stools are quite small. They're actually perfect for kids (which is what family camping is about), and the table's legs can be extended to make the table higher.
We've been leaving the table at the height it came in as it's great for the kids, and still works well for adults.
The table comes with four stools. There's five of us but that's not a problem as I like my <Link title="The Chef’s Chair: Outwell Bredon Hills" href="/camping/outwell-bredon-hills-chair/">Outwell Bredon Hills chair</Link>, which has a table of its own!
A useful addition is the storage pockets. We're finding these pockets on Outwell's furniture useful places to store all sorts of things, including hand towels, wet wipes, and more cutlery.

The Marilla fits nicely in the tent as well (in this case, an <Link title="Outwell Hornet XL Review – Simplifying Family Camping" href="/camping/tents/outwell-hornet-xl/">Outwell Hornet XL</Link>).
And being lightweight, it's easy to move if you have to 'eat indoors'.

## Folding the Outwell Marilla Picnic Table Set

Below is a little sequence of pictures showing how the table folds up (click the picture for a larger photo).
The stools fold underneath the table and are secured in place with large velcro straps. It reminds me of folding a away a decorator's pasting board.

When it's folded up it's actually the same size as our folding <Link title="Outwell Lucia – Popup cupboard for camping" href="/camping/outwell-lucia/">Outwell Lucia cupboard</Link>, and they both sit flat in the boot of the car.
Remember though, you don't have to use this just for camping. You'll find it useful for going to picnics with the car, or even BBQs in the back garden.

So if you're thinking of getting one of these, here's some of the details:

<li>Packed size is 61cm x 60 cm x 80 cm, and weighs only just over 8kg (including with the stools inside).</li>
<li>Unpacked the Outwell Marilla's table area is 60cm x 120 cm.</li>
<li>The table's height is adjustable from between 62cm and 70cm.</li>
<li>Stools are 41 cm x 28 cm x 36 cm, and can take a maximum load of 100 kg.</li>
