Positioned right on the Firth of Forth, the Blackness Castle looks like a ship.
The castle was built for one of Scotland’s most powerful families, the Crichtons, and it was never a peaceful place.
It was in use right up until after the first world war and was also a state prison.

Dogs are allowed on leads, but not allowed on the roofed areas of the castle.
A lot of the ground is uneven and with steps, and so not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
