Can your family run 1000 miles this year?

So I saw this campaign, organised by Trail Running magazine on social media a few days ago, and dismissed it straight away!

#Run1000miles in one year. That’s impossible for me to achieve!

I consider myself to be a novice runner, having been doing it only a year, taking part in local park runs, and a few family fun races. Taking all of them at my own, slow, pace.

Inspired by the pictures on Social Media, I gave it a little more thought and hastily did a few calculations of how much I would need to run a month to complete the challenge.

The biggest obstacle for this challenge, apart from the fitness, is time

The biggest obstacle for this challenge, apart from the fitness, is time. My job doesn’t allow me to pop outside during my lunch break and go for a run, and with Gav working away, a run before and after work is out the question.

I’m not trying to make excuses. Everyone these days leads busy lifestyles, but with our current lifestyle, I will find it difficult to run 4.3Km every day!

Now I’m not one to give up; taking on a challenge is what motivates me, so what about adapting the challenge to suit our circumstances.
After a quick discussion with the rest of the family here is our plan to take on the #Run1000miles challenge.

We are going to do this as a family. That’s five of us running, and calculating distance travelled over the month from all of us.

that’s approximately 83.3miles / 134km a month

By my calculations, that’s approximately 83.3miles / 134km a month between five of us!
That is a lot of running and quite frightening when you see the figures in front of you!

We are already playing catch up as the challenge started at the beginning of January, but here goes!
We are going to be blogging every month about the experience and how the mileage is going. Anything that gets us outside and fitter has to be a good thing.

And in case you are a bit mad like me, and fancy getting your family involved too, here is a link to sign up.
