The Bure Valley Railway has an 18 mile roundtrip running between Wroxham on the Norfolk Broads to the ancient market town of Aylsham, with stops at Brampton, Buxton, and Coltishall.
The trains are a narrower gauge then a full size engine. You can see them in action here:
Train, Walk, and Cycle
There is a footpath and cycle way that runs alongside the railway so you can do a mix of cycle and walk, and pick the train up at certain stations or catch it for the return trip back.
Cycles can be carried on the trail for £3.50, but note that there may not always be space (especially when special events are on).
Train and Boat
Being on the Norfolk Broads, you can also catch a train from Aylsham, and then take a 1 1/2 hour cruise on the Broads (details here).
If you fancy something a bit more adventurous, check out the Canoe Man. He runs family canoe trips up the broads where you can catch the train back.
Timetable and Fares
A full timetable can be viewed on the Bure Valley Railway website. In summer months the train run around every hour and a half.
Fares can be available for a single hop, a full return trip, or a train and boat trip ride.
Children under 5 travel free.
When we last checked a full Return (rover – hop on and off) for a family (2 adults and 2 children) was £32.00, with additional child at £3.50.
