Have you got a long car journey with kids? Tired of the 'Are we there yet?' Try these car games for kids. There are some really good ideas.

We've all heard it many times before:

''Are we there yet?', ''What's the time?', ''How long until we're there?'

Sometimes these questions start no longer than 10 minutes after leaving the house!

It doesn't matter how excited they are; long car journeys are not much fun for kids (nor adults!).

Tick Sheets

One thing we've created in the past is 'tick sheets'.  Simple lists we created and printed off from the computer for the kids to try and spot things, ticking them off as they went.

This could include a certain colour car, a helicopter, etc.

Car Games Book

With a long trip to Devon this summer, we searched for other inspiration to entertain the kids. We came across Car Games: 100 Games to Avoid 'Are We There Yet?' from Amazon, and it was well worth the money.

Although it's full of car games for kids, there was something in there for everyone... even our 3-year-old ...and even the adults.   Simple but fun games.

Whilst nothing can shorten the journey, we at least had some tricks up our sleeves.

Our few favourites have been the traffic light game, spotting what your future car will be, and the license plate game.

No, I'm not going to give you spoilers on what they are - you'll have to buy the book 😉

I-Spy Books

We also use the I-Spy books, which are great for journeys.

100 Things for Little Children to do on a Journey

Another item that is popular for car journeys is the 100 Things for Little Children to do on a Journey.

This isn't a book but a set of activity cards.

The pack comes with a pen to use with the cards that can be wiped off so that the cards can be reused on another journey.
