The Secret Behind George Clark’s Caravan

September 5, 2015

So did anyone see George Clark’s Amazing Spaces, where he restored an old 1970’s static caravan into a modern living space.  (You can view the final episode here).

The whole side of this caravan opens up to extend the living space outside, creating a deck where the kitchen and bedroom open onto.  (You can even have a bath outside, complete with hot and cold water plumbing).

Well, I think we know where he got his inspiration from…. may be this LEGO caravan!

Good, but could be better

Seriously though, George’s design was good but there is one thing I think he’ll need, and that’s a shelter that pulls out over the top of the opened up caravan.

Most of us that spend a good deal of time outside in the UK can fully appreciate something like a caravan that opens up – especially as he has a view over Conniston Water.  However, we also know that we need to protected ourselves from the rain.

How many experienced campers, caravaners, and those with motor homes have an awning or some other shelter?  Well, all of them.

It enables you to still enjoy the great outdoors, even in this often damp climate.

So well done George, but unless you just plan to use your new home on sunny days, I think a slight tweak will be needed with your design.

  1. Something like this maybe?.
It’s a caravan with a fold out veranda, complete with roof.
