We spent a few nights pitched up at the Gullivers Camping and Caravanning Club site while on our #5CChallenge with Casper the Caravan.
This campsite is right next to the Gullivers theme park in Milton Keynes, and you can access the park directly from the campsite. But more on that in a moment.
Staying at the Gullivers Campsite
The site is relatively large, with plenty of grass and hardstanding pitches.
The campsite also has modern facilities. It was also nice to see that they accommodated for our little campers too!
Accessing the Gulliver’s Theme Park from the Campsite
The campsite doesn’t join onto the main Gullivers Theme Park, but instead, it connects to where the Dinosaur Park, Sfear, and Nerf Zone are located.
The path to the theme park takes you past some interesting glamping cabins. These aren’t part of the Camping and Caravanning Club site, but are part of the Gulliver’s Glamping ‘campsite’.
I did like what they had done to this old dub. It’s converted into a bedroom and connected to the cabin.
If you follow down this path you’ll come to the camper’s entrance to Gulliver’s Theme Park.
Confusion – What is Club’s and what is Gulliver’s
As you enter and exit the theme park through the camper’s entrance, you’ll see signs encouraging campers to join in with activities at the fire pit, take a cruise on the lake, and get involved with lots of evening activities.
Since the Camping and Caravanning Club is displayed next to the campers entrance sign, you would be forgiven for thinking that these activities are open to Club members. They are not.
However, there appeared no problem in using the Play Park there, and when we asked, they welcomed us at the fire pit for some marshmallow toasting (though this might not be the case when they are busy, so please ask).
By the time we had returned from the Theme Park, we found the door to the Club campsite closed.
This can easily be opened to get back into the Club site, but access back into Gulliver’s after it has closed is only if you know the keypad code.
Gulliver’s Theme Park – well sort of…
Our main reason for visiting this campsite wasn’t to go to Gullivers. Instead, we were staying there in order to visit Woburn Abbey. One of the Treasure Houses in the Challenge the Camping and Caravanning Club had given us.
So, we never got to visit the main Gulliver’s Theme Park, but we did try the smaller parks that were connected to the campsite.
This is a large dome that contains a high ropes course inside.
We didn’t have time to try this, but it did look fun.
The Dinosaur Park
This has a number of animatronic dinosaurs, ice age creatures, and related activities. There’s also a children’s petting farm.
The dinosaurs aren’t quite as good as some more modern ones, such as those at the West Midlands Safari Park. However, the enthusiastic guide on the river safari ride tried his best.
The Nerf Zone
This was our Tom’s most favourite attraction. It’s certainly somewhere your kids can burn off a bit of energy.
The Nerf Zone is actually inside the Dinosaur Park. After the Nerf Battle, no one checked tickets or escorted people out. So in theory, we needn’t had paid for admission to the Dinosaur Park! I’m not sure if that’s their policy, but they didn’t stop us from buying tickets to two different attractions!
The campsite is OK. We found it fairly busy, especially with families, as you would expect. However, being a bit busier, you had to watch the kids and the traffic on the site.
It’s a little unfair to compare theme parks since we didn’t try the main Gullivers theme park, but the Club campsite at Drayton Manor does connect to the main theme park there, which was great fun.
