Shell and I have always loved getting outside and exploring new places, so when we had children, this is, of course, something we wanted to share with them.
Friends and family always asked where we go or how they could take their kids camping, and so eventually, Get Out With The Kids was born to help other families create their outdoor adventures.
What is an adventure anyway?
We all think of adventure as crossing deserts, glaciers, or cutting a trail through a jungle. And yes, we would like to do that.
However, adventures can be had much closer to home.
This is a big reason why we love camping so much, and finding those little remote campsites, where we can spend Saturday night around the campfire looking up at the stars.
Your kids don’t need a lot to have an adventure
It’s important to remember that for your children, especially young kids, life is one continual discovery of new things. You don’t need to do anything extraordinary for them to have an adventure.
But, even if you are a cynical adult who has seen it all before, you can find adventure if you look hard enough.
Adventurer Alastair Humphreys sums it up well with his concept of Microadventures.
What is a Microadventure?
“A short condensed burst of adventure”, Alastair Humphreys
Although Alastair does do the kinds of adventure we all dream about, he decided to walk a lap of the M25 motorway as his first Microadvenutre, and loved it.
As Alastair says, “You don’t need to go to the Yukon to have an adventure”.
