The good

  • The Zempire Aero TXL is a really large family tent. The living space and the built-in porch will give you lots of space for long camping holidays.

The not so good

  • None that we found, but I suppose some of the unique design features might not be for everyone.

Our Review

Last year we looked at a big family inflatable tent from New Zealand firm, Zempire.

They were a relatively new brand to the UK and brought over some different designs to what we usually see.

This year, we've been lucky to have a close look at their new Zempire Aero TXL family tent, thanks to our friends over at Camping World sending us over their Zempire Aero TXL Tent Package.

In the Bag

Zempire Aero TXL Bag

So, let's start at the beginning: the tent's bag is a big bag as it's a big family tent. And, as it is a big bag, it's heavy. You'll want two of you to lift it comfortably.

One of the things I liked about the Zempire tents last year was the decent straps, and I'm glad they're on the new Aero TXL too.

For such a big tent, having some heavy-duty compression straps are what you need to help get the thing smaller.

Large straps are also wrapped around the rolled-up tent. Again, this a practical design feature that can help you squeeze the air out of a rolled-up tent.

Inflating the Zempire

Zempire hasn't gone for a fancy inflation valve. Instead, they have the sort of valve you might find on an inflatable boat. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This valve works well; you inflate each air tube individually. However, if you want to inflate two tubes simultaneously, the Zempire pump has a connector to hook it up to two tent valves simultaneously.

Despite the size, the tent didn't take too long to inflate.

I did find that going inside to push the beams up helped a little.

You also need to have a tent peg handy to peg out the straps - yes, straps on the front of the tent instead of guylines - or the tent will collapse.

It's a large tunnel tent with inflatable tent poles!

Aero TXL Layout

The Zempire Aero TXL is a massive tent.

Inside the Zempire Aero TXL

It has three double bedrooms that run the length of the back of the tent.

It then has a large living area, plus, a really large built-in porch.

One of the interesting things is that you actually anchor the large bedrooms with a tent peg from inside your tent!

Tent Ventilation

One the distinct design features of Zempire tents has always been its ventilation.

Down the side of the tent, there's a ventilation panel built into the design, which is very subtle.
If the weather is hot, you can zip down the blind on the side windows to the floor, allowing air to flow through the side panels.

You also have two side doors on the tent. Both of these can be sealed with mesh so that you can get a good air flow through the tent on hot summer days.

Plus, the main living space and the built-in porch can be separated with a door that can zip across to divide the tent in two. As with the other doors, this too has a mesh screen. An enormous mesh screen in fact.

So, you can have the tent open and fully ventilated, but with the living and sleeping area's with mesh screens to keep the bugs out. Nice!

Other Little Touches

As with the straps on the bag, the compression straps that wrap around the deflated tent, and the straps that hold the front of the tent up, the guy lines look good quality too.

The metal tensioner adjusters are a nice touch.

The Tent Package

The Tent Package includes a footprint to protect the underside of the tent and a fleece carpet, which I found to be good quality.
