The good
- Big and wide enough for a good night's sleep.
- Camping mats can be fitted.
- Comfortable and quiet.
- Packs down to a reasonable size for such a large camp-bed.
- Keeps you off the cold floor, and frees-up storage space under the bed.
The not so good
- You need a tent big enough for it.
- Can still take up more space to transport than smaller camping mats.

Our Review
Campbeds can be a bit of a luxury item. If you have one set-up in your tent, camping can feel very different, and they can give you a better night's sleep as you are raised up and away from the cold ground.
However, I've tried and tested a fair few camp beds, and there are a couple of ways a poor camp bed can ruin your night's sleep.
- I've felt the support on some poorly designed camp-beds. Not very comfortable.
- The material can rub on the supports, making quite a loud noise when you move, especially in a quiet tent at night.
We've had the Outwell Posadas bed in the past from Outwell, which was very good, so when I visited Outwell's 2020 season launch, I had the opportunity to try all their beds! :-)
The bed I liked the most this year is the Outwell Laguna Hills L, and fortunately, Outwell agreed to send me one to review :-D
The Outwell Laguna Hills L - Packed Away
As you might have guessed from the L in the name, this is a larger-than-normal camp bed.
Camp beds can be quite large to transport, so how large is the Laguna Hills L bed when folded?
While folded away in its bag, the camp-bed measures 101 cm long, 19 cm wide, and 8 cm tall when lying flat. A few of these beds will easily fit in most car boots.
Setting up the Camp-Bed
The camp bed is straightforward to put together, but you must do one thing before locking the legs in place: ensure the material is over the ends of the bed. The frame slots into pockets on each corner of the bed. It's a lot easier to do this while the bed is folded.
Then, unfold the legs and lock them in place.
How comfortable is the bed?
If you aren't used to camp-beds, let me tell you: they aren't like your bed at home as there's no mattress.
However, laying on the Laguna Hills L, I found it OK for a campbed. It's not too firm, with a little flex in the fabric, but firm enough to support you. It also comes with a built-in headrest.
Can I use a mattress with the camp bed?
Yes! At each corner of the bed, you'll find elastic straps. These are to hold a camping mattress in place.
We even tested it with the massive 16 cm deep Outwell Dreamboat mat.
Verdict
I like this camp bed, especially with a mattress or airbed. Sleeping with it in this combination feels like a regular home bed.
The Laguna Hills L is big and wide, doesn't make a noise, and packs down reasonably small for such a large bed.
There's also plenty more storage space underneath the bed :-)
We gladly give it the thumbs-up award.
