Our Review

The Outwell Dreamboats are fantastic self-inflating mats for family car camping, which we've reviewed before.

Well, now the Outwell Dreamboat has a matching pillow: the Outwell Dreamboat Ergo Pillow. And Outwell kindly agreed to send me one to review :-D

Pack Size

I often say, the best pillows to take are the ones from your beds at home. Unfortunately, they can take up a lot of space in your car. This is where camping pillows come in.

The Outwell Ergo Pillow has a pack size of just 31 cm long and 10 cm wide and comes with a bag to keep it clean.

Pillow in its bag

The ErgoPillow comes with its own bag.

Inflating and deflating the Ergo Pillow

The Outwell Dreamboat Ergo Pillow has the same inflation valves as the Dreamboat SIM, and I found it very quick to inflate.

I didn't even need to blow in any air.

And with the valve set on deflate mode, it's easy to pack up too.

And it won't re-inflate, making it easy to get back in the bag.

Rolling up the pillow

The pillow deflates easily when the valve is switched into the deflate position.

Comfort

Comfort is, of course, one of the most important aspects of a pillow. It's surprising how a bad pillow (or lack of pillow) can ruin a night's sleep.

The Ergo Pillow is contoured to fit your head, with a slight indentation in the middle.

The pillow is contoured to fit your head better.

And overall, it feels quite comfortable. Of course, you can make it firmer or softer by adjusting the air in the pillow.

Trying the pillow

I found the Outwell Dreamboat Ergo Pillow comfortable even in this quick test.

Using it for real

I used the Outwell Dreamboat Ergo Pillow for three nights and found it OK, but not the most comfortable of pillows. It's not the most uncomfortable of pillows either. (See our Camping Pillow Comparison for other pillows).

My tip for this pillow is to wrap it in something, like a fleece, or place it under the hood of your sleeping bag for the fabric feel.

I usually sleep with two pillows, so one pillow is often not enough ;-)
