We were excited and lucky to get our hands on some of the new Osprey bags for 2017.
The excellent reputation of Osprey is well known and needs no introduction. We already have the older Tempest 20 from 2016, so we were in no doubt that the 2017 range wouldn't disappoint.
Osprey Tempest vs Osprey Talon daysacks
Putting the new bags to the test
For the first adventure with our new bags, we headed over to Llangollen in Wales for a hike to a castle on a hill.
We don't pack light when we go for an adventure. The camera kit for filming takes up a fair bit of room alone, but we found ample space between the two bags for storage.
very useful for those "on the go items"
The pockets on the hip belt were easy to handle and very useful for those "on the go items" and the side stretch pockets were convenient for grabbing a drink.
very comfortable to wear; no aching shoulders or back ache after a long hike
We found the bags very comfortable to wear; no aching shoulders or back ache after a long hike. As Osprey say, "this pack is designed to cling to your back like a frightened monkey", and this is what they do!
The stretchy pocket on the front was very handy for storing the wet gear
When the weather turned nasty on our walk, these bags proved their weight in gold. The stretchy pocket on the front was very handy for storing the wet gear.
One thing to note is that these bags don't come with a rain cover. You have to purchase this separately and/or get a dry bag for the inside if you are carrying stuff that you really must not get wet.
We have been using these bags now for a few months now for various activities.
They recently accompanied us on our local three peak challenge, which we achieved in very challenging wintry blizzard conditions.
What's new with the Osprey Talon and Tempest daysacks?
These bags are loaded with features, but this doesn't comprise the style.
There are a few cosmetic changes from the 2016 range concerning the logo and additional branding, which does look very smart.
Reflective graphics are a useful safety addition, and they have also moved the key hook from the outside top pocket to the inside of the bag, which keeps them more secure.
The inside pocket has also changed to a mesh pocket. This is lighter but I also find better to see quickly what is in the pocket.
Which Osprey bag is best for you?
There are many colours to choose from to suit all tastes.
If you're not sure what size is best for you, then it's worth checking out the app on the Osprey website to get yourself self-measured up, so you get a good fit. And don't forget to read their guide to adjusting your Osprey bag to fit well.
If anyone asks for a recommendation for a backpack the Osprey range would be top of the list. They certainly get the Thumbs Up Award from us.
They are so comfortable to wear and lightweight.
What makes them appealing is that versatile they are perfectly suited for different types of adventures.
They are quite an expensive investment compared to a cheap daysack. However, this is a bag that is going to last and take on many adventures.
We are now the proud owners of three Osprey bags and love our little Osprey family!
