A good set of base layers is essential for keeping warm when it's cold. It can make a big difference how long you can stay outside and your enjoyment of the outdoor activity.
This layer of clothing hugs close to your skin, retaining your body heat. Such a small layer of clothing can really make a difference.
However, you don't want to overheat and start to sweat, as if that moisture gets cold, it can be a fast route to hypothermia!
This is where wicking base layers come in - they keep you warm and they keep you dry.
Products made from Merino Wool make great base layers. The material is very soft (just what you want next to your skin), a very good insulator, and helps with wicking.
Helly Hanson HH Warm Ice Crew for Women Review
The first thing I liked on the HH Warm baselayer was the packaging. It comes in its own little drawer!
The Helly Hansen HH Warm Ice Crew top is a mixture of Merino Wool and their 'Lifa' stay dry technology (so 'wicking' to you and me).
Enough of the technical stuff. Firstly it's very comfortable to wear. They've even reduced the stitching, and the stripes on the arm are kinda cool, they add a bit of style so you don't quite look like someone who works behind the scenes in a theatre! (I need the go faster stripes too!).
It's also very warm.
For a nice change, I've been one of the warmest when we've been out on our adventures.
I've had cheaper base layers before, and the Helly Hansen is a bit more expensive, but there is a noticeable difference, and they get a recommendation from me.
