The good

  • Fantastic value for money
  • Can attach to a bike without the need for additional bags
  • Small pack size

The not so good

  • Small. Solo camping or parent with small child.

Our Review

When I saw the Easy Camp Energy 200 Compact Tent at this year's product launch, I thought that it was a great design: a neat little package for people to try some bike packing without a massive investment.

Fortunately, Easy Camp agreed to my sample request! 😀

Pitching the Tent

Pitching is straightforward, though the poles go into the inner tent on this tent.

This is an inner-first pitching. It's best to pitch when dry (which was not the case in my real-world test!).

There are just two tent poles.

They have a red or yellow marker and slide into the red or yellow sleeve on the tent.

Push the poles into the support holes, and it goes up. And then clip the remaining tent material onto the poles.

The inner tent pitched

The Easy Camp Energy 200 Compact is inner-first pitching. This photo shows the inner tent pitched before the fly sheet (the outer tent material) is added. Note that there are just 2 colour-coded tent poles.

Then, put the fly sheet over the top. Remember to peg it out, including the guy lines (there are only 3 guy lines).

It's easier to see it in action than to read it. 😉

The Tent

it is also ideal if you have a couple of kids who want to sleep out in the back garden during the summer

The tent has a small porch area to store a few things like boots, water bottles, and even two useful hooks. Ideal for hanging your bike helmet?

However, if you have a big bag, you'll find the porch too small for that in this tent. This is a problem if two adults share, so I recommend this tent is better for solo camping or if you have a small child to bring on an adventure.

(BTW, it is also ideal if you have a couple of kids who want to sleep out in the back garden during the summer).

Some things I liked about this tent:

  • Plenty of ventilation to avoid condensation
  • A hanging line
  • Storage pockets inside
  • A fantastic mesh bag for hanging your light

I really liked the mesh bag for the light

The mesh bag for your bike light or head torch is a great addition. This worked really well in practice.

Attaching to a bike

The pole bag clips onto the main tube of your bike. Put your tent peg bag inside this bag, too.

The tent bag can attach to your handlebars. There are clips for this, too.

The tent attached to my bike

The Easy Camp Energy 200 Compact is attached to my bike in this photo. The poles go on the frame, and the tent on the handlebars.

It's all very simple.

The tent bag didn't look very waterproof. However, I rode with it in very bad rain, and the tent was dry when I took it out. 👍

Verdict

This tent could be classed as cheap and cheerful but I found it came with many thought-out features not found in bargain basement tents.

It also worked well in the real world, even in conditions not suited for the tent.

It's a great tent to try out an adventure, in good weather, without having to spend a lot of money.

It gets the Thumbs Up award from us.
