Dry bags (or 'kayak' bags) are useful kit for keeping things dry, either in your canoe or in your backpack. We've been using the Gelert Kayak Bag.
We've given the Gelert Kayak Bag the Thumbs Up award.
- A big size to take a lot of gear.
- Has been used extensively and is still waterproof.
The not so good
- None really, though a slightly thicker material would provide extra piece of mind.
This was a hands-on product review.

A dry bag (or kayak bag as they're sometimes sold as), are simply a waterproof bag to help keep your stuff dry if you are canoeing or hiking.
We've been using the Gelert Kayak Bag for a few years now and not had any leaks.
Here's our video showing the Gelert Kayak Bag:
As you can see from the video, they are a really simple concept.
We strap ours to the front of our family kayak, and it also goes inside by backpack as an extra waterproof lining - in fact, it is permanently packed as a quick grab bag of useful emergency items for hiking with the family.
Pictures of dry bags usually show a rather solid looking structure that you would think seals shut, probably like a zip lock bag. However, that's not the case. You simply fold the top over a number of times and clip it together.
This may come as a bit of a surprise if you've not used one of these bags before.
It doesn't sound very waterproof, but our dry bag has never let in any water.
Getting a dry bag is certainly a useful investment.
