Our Review
There is a great selection of outdoor gear for adults, and over recent years this has expanded to the kid's range. It's great that companies use their technologies for kids' outdoor wear.
If we want to get kids outdoors, they need to be dressed appropriately to enjoy the activity comfortably and want to do it again.
Berghaus have recently launched a new outdoor range for kids.
We picked out the Rannoch Jacket to try, as it looked like a simple and practical jacket for everyday adventures.

Our experience with the Berghaus Rannoch
We took the jacket out on one of our caravan challenges for a day out at Blenheim Palace.
The jacket was a good fit, true to size and looked smart. Little adventurers like to look stylish, and Tom was happy to wear the jacket. The dark colour is suitable for outdoor children, as Tom attracts dirt like a magnet, so less visible to see all the muck collected.
The easy-to-open lower pockets were a good size, with enough room for gloves and any little treasures picked up along the way. The chest pocket is a useful addition too.
The red trim on the zips adds a nice touch and a flash of bright colour.
The chin guard prevented the zip from rubbing on his chin, as this jacket pulled up quite high for warmth.
It was bitterly cold at Blenheim Palace, and Tom never complained that he was cold as the insulation kept him warm and snug. The hood on the jacket is a decent size and fits Tom's head well, shielding him from the blustery wind.
Tom is a bit of a wild child, always on the go, so when we look for outdoor clothes for him, we want something that isn't restrict movement and allow him to explore and discover. The Rannoch allows this as it's not bulky or restricting to wear.
Verdict
I think the simple style is what makes this jacket suitable for children. It covers the essentials you need for outdoor play - waterproof, warmth and durability.
- Adult coat technology for kids.
- Zipped pockets with toggles for easy opening and closing.
- Chin zip guard to make it more comfortable when zipped up.
- A warm coat but still with a good range of movement.
- Makes him look and feel the part.
The Rannoch jacket is more expensive than normal high-street kids' coats, but you get a jacket that will last and see your child through many adventures. Handing the jacket to siblings might be another way to justify the expense.
It gets the Thumbs Up from us.
