Description

Walk in the footsteps of the famous children’s author Roald Dahl to where he and his children walked for inspiration and to test out his stories.

Roald Dahl, the famous author of books such as The Fantastic Mr Fox, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and The Big Friendly Giant, used to live in the village of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire.

This walk starts at the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, where you can sit in the cafe and fuel up before heading off!

The first part of the walk takes you under the railway on the edge of the village. While you might dismiss this little tunnel as simply an urban obstacle that separates you from the countryside beyond, it’s actually a rather special place for Roald Dahl. This is where he would bring his children down, sometimes at night, to test out his new stories on them.

After the tunnel, you are soon out of the village and into the countryside.
Not long after a walk through a field, you approach Angling Spring Wood, which is where Roald Dahl got inspiration for The Fantastic Mr Fox.

How come we know so much about this walk?
Well, we were lucky enough to film it with ITV for their Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100 programme with presenter Ore Oduba and professional storyteller and author Chip Colquhoun.
