While exploring the Northumberland National Park as part of the #5CChallenge, we went off to visit Kielder Water and Forest Park. A place that has been on our to-do list for some time.

There are a number of cycling routes around the park. So we headed off to Kielder Castle to one of the bike hire places.

Unfortunately, we only had time to hire the bikes for a few hours, but the chap at the hire shop said that wouldn't be a problem, and recommended this route.

It takes you over the old train viaduct and along the North Shore of Kielder Water.

Although there are a few steep sections, the track is good and family-friendly.

The route took us past some great views and also to an interesting head sculpture in the forest.

Just past the head, was the viewpoint. The recommended last point on our route as it would take us too long to get back if we went further and the hire shop advised us that after this point, the hills get a little bit too steep for children.

This was a great cycling route, which is off the roads for the most part. Recommended if you are visiting Kielder Water and Forest Park.
