Arkley Summit (Greater London 3 Peaks Hiking Challenge)
© Photo: Arkley: Arkley Water Tower - This unusual water tower is located at the apex of the junction between Rowley Green Road and Rowley Lane. Looked at in plan on satellite imagery it has the shape of a snowflake with six large angled protrusions from its central core. It was built in 1965 to the designs of the architects Scherrer and Hicks and is almost unique in the UK, the only other tower having a similar snowflake design being TG2618 : Water Tower in Horstead in Norfolk. This is the summit of Arkley, which is part of the Greater London 3 Peaks Hiking Challenge. Ok, so Greater Londer isn't known for a 'three peaks challenge'. Mountains aren't in great supply in London. However, this is one of the high points, even though you can bag this summit from the road!
