Our Review
We spent an enjoyable few days staying at Winchcombe Camping and Caravanning Club campsite when visiting in the October half term in a motorhome.
Winchcombe campsite is not far from Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire and is set in a rural location within the Cotswolds.
The campsite boasts a fishing lake and plenty of flat pitches, both grass and hard standings with electric hook-up. (There's also some self-catering lodges too).
As we found with many Camping and Caravanning Club sites, the facilities were in excellent condition and kept very clean.
The site also has a play park, as well as quieter roads that are perfect for kids to ride their bikes on. Plus, Winchcombe has a games room, complete with traditional skittles.
If you want to avoid having to cook, then you can visit some nearby pubs that serve food. We gave two of them a try.
Walking to The Royal Oak from the campsite
After a bit of a walk across some fields and you'll get to the old village of Gretton.
You may hear the toot of a steam train. On the outskirts of Gretton, you'll walk under a railway bridge of the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway. If you are lucky, an old steam train or diesel may pass over.
Once you get into Gretton, turn left on the road and continue to walk up the hill. You will eventually reach the Royal Oak.
The Royal Oak has a play park and even has a couple of tennis courts too.
A good place to walk too, enjoy some lunch, or just sit and relax while the kids play in the park.
The steam railway passes by right next to the play park.

Walking to the Gardners Arms
A short walk across some fields (be prepared for mud!) is the Gardner's Arms pub, which we visited one night, and had some great home-cooked food.
At the time of our visit, you would get a discount if you mentioned you were staying at the campsite.
Here's a map of the route from campsite to the Gardner's Arms.
If you have a motorhome, then you'll be pleased to find that Winchcombe Campsite has a Motorhome Service Point, where you can fill up with fresh water and empty grey wastewater.
And as mentioned before, there's plenty of hard standings for motorhomes or caravans.
