Street Head is a friendly, family-run site in the heart of the <a href="http://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Yorkshire Dales National Park</a>. After a warm Yorkshire welcome we encourage visitors to relax and enjoy their stay. We live in the cottage on the park and can be contacted at any time should it be necessary.

All the basics are covered, with clean facilities, covered washing up room and laundry with free hot water in all the basins/sinks.
The camping field a large, mostly sloping to some degree (so pitch carefully) with great views of the surrounding hills, there's room to spread out and allow children to play especially at quieter times.

Straight from the campsite there are some great quiet routes for little legs on foot or trying out their bikes, with streams for stone skimming and dam building and waterfalls a plenty.

The campsite is ideally located as a central base to a variety of well know landmarks, with a fabulous network of well maintained footpaths and cycle routes (even the Tour du France visited in 2014). As for local attractions, don't miss the weird and wonderful <a href="http://www.theforbiddencorner.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Forbidden Corner</a>, take in some local history at <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g635919-d1449607-Reviews-Bolton_Castle-Leyburn_North_Yorkshire_England.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bolton Castle</a> or get a taste for the Dales at <a href="http://www.wensleydale.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Hawes Creamery</a> (home of the Wensleydale Cheese - Gromit!).

Wensleydale Camping at Aysgarth Falls

We're a basic family-run campsite, set on a working farm in Wensleydale. Our camping fields are set on the edge of the village of Askrigg, where you'll find a playpark, deli, pubs and a small shop. There are many local footpaths and cycle trails, many of them passable with a pushchair. Many campers are choosing to do sections of the stage1 Tour de France route from 2014.

We're in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, where there's so much to see and do.

It's a beautiful little walled wood - we help with navigation (it's only 1 vertical mile away) and we can transport as much or as little equipment there as required by people. It's child-friendly, we allow campfires and there's so much to do - den building, a small river, bivvying, exploring etc. We even transport people up there by tractor-trailer if they fancy an adventure.

Stage 1 Cycles in North Yorkshire provide bike hire, bike tours, bike sales, bike equipment, and bike servicing. You can also get refreshments in the Firebox Cafe.

A Wensleydale Bike Tour with Stage 1 Cycles

This is the route that we did with <a href="https://www.stage1cycles.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Stage 1 Cycles</a>.

We set-off from Hawes and started the ascent of The Buttertubs, which was part of Stage 1 of the Tour de France when it started in Yorkshire.

The climb is quite steep (17-25% in places!) and so the kids were taken by mini-bus to near the top.

Stage 1 Cycles to Usha Gap Campsite over The Buttertubs

Usha Gap campsite is nestled in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

Firepits are available (no charge), and so you can enjoy a campfire under the Dark Skies of North Yorkshire.

The campsite is based on a working farm. Note that the site doesn’t yet have Electric Hook-ups though please check the Usha Gap website as that may change very soon.

There’s also a 2 bedroom cottage available.

We went along the country lanes and then the Swale Trail, finishing up in Reeth for ice cream!

The route is mainly along quiet country roads, gravel tracks, and a little bit of grass.

As you can see from the elevation, it is mostly downhill, though there are few climbs to encourage your kids up.

Real Family Holidays in the Yorkshire Dales
