This hostel sits within 85 acres of the National Trust estate, and so there are plenty of opportunities to get outside and stretch your legs.
If you want a break from the countryside, Alton Towers is just 15 minutes away.

Dovedale is a picturesque valley that’s great for family walks alongside the River Dove. Park at NT Ilam and go for an explore.

Rivendale lies in an elevated position in the heart of the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire. Surrounded by spectacular scenery, within walking distance of Dove Dale, Eaton and Biggin Dales - all accessible directly from site, Rivendale is unsurpassed as a centre for walking and hiking. 
It is also ideal for cyclists with the Tissington Trail just 100 metres from site, linking to the High Peak Trail, Trails Triangle and Limestone Way.
On-site facilities include a luxurious under-floor heated shower and toilet buildings and a restaurant and bar. Campers can go "back to nature" in our 10-acre wildflower meadow or use the sheltered main pitching area. 

We also offer Yurts and Camping Pods, some with wood-burning stoves so our clients can enjoy camping and barbecues regardless of the weather and not have to pack up a wet muddy tent. Note there are only mobile showers and toilets on the meadow. 

Campfires are permitted within firepits in the camping meadow and BBQs are permitted in the main pitching area subject to observing our health and safety rules.

Also of interest is the wildlife including a superb orchid display (late June and early July) Badgers, Foxes, Crested Newts, and a huge variety of birds on-site, making the site popular with Bird-watchers.
Astronomers value the darkness to better see the stars.

The Peak District offers a diverse variety of attractions provide entertainment even if the weather is poor - Alton Towers, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Gullivers Kingdom and the other attractions at Matlock, the National Tram Museum, Arkwright's World Heritage site in the Derwent Valley are all about a 20-30 minute drive away. Picturesque local villages within walking distance-such as Tissington and Hartington have great traditions such as Well-dressings, Morris Dancing and fine pubs. Outdoor activities such as coarse/game fishing, pony trekking, sailing, caving, climbing,pot-holing available.

New House Farm provides 'back to basics' camping on a working farm in the Peak District.
Note: there is no hot water or showers. Just a composting loo and a mains water tap.

This is an organic farm and there's some produce usually available in the farm shop.

This is a circular walk, about 13.5km, around Carsington Water in Derbyshire, not far from Ashbourne.

Stay in a 17th Century manor house within the Peak District of Derbyshire, with lots of things for families to do right on the doorstep.

Middle Hills Farm has over 40 acres within the beautiful Peak District with a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. It is close to the towns of Matlock and Bakewell.

If you don’t fancy cooking there is a pub within walking distance. Cold snacks and drinks are also available on site.

The High Peak Trail is a relatively flat and traffic-free route along a former railway line in the Derbyshire Peak District. The Tissington Trail is also a traffic-free route in the Peak District, taking a slightly lower route. Both routes connect up, and by leaving the route and taking country roads, you can do a circular route that takes in both these trails.
