Shropshire

This route takes you up two hills: Pontesford Hill and Earl's Hill in Shropshire. Well, they're two hills, but joined together!
Earl's Hill is a Nature Reserve managed by the local Shropshire Wildlife Trust, with woodlands covering a lot of the hillside. 

As with many hills in Shropshire, there is an Iron Age hill fort on the top, and another one lower down, near the car park. 

The walk starts at the upper end of the car park. There are two route markers with an upper route and a lower one. Take the upper trail; the lower one takes you around the hill.
As you walk up the hill you will see some steps on your left with a signpost to the summit. This part of the route is very steep. There are also plenty of rocks and routes underfoot, so please take care.

Eventually, you will leave the woodland behind, and cross over onto the open grassland of Earl's Hill. As you go through the gate, you cross part of the outer defences of the hill fort. 
Carry on up the past, which takes you through the old entrance gate to the fort. Eventually, you will reach the summit at the trig point. 

Carrying on the path and descend the other side of the hill. At the bottom, you will reach a path. Take the path to the right that goes around the base of the hill. From here, the route is much flatter.
You will reach or fork in the path, with a path to the left through a kissing gate. Take this path. 

Continue along this path and you will reach the signpost for the lower hill fort. Follow that path through the remains of the fort, and you'll end up back at the car park.

2 Hills and 2 Hill Forts: Pontesford and Earl's Hill Walk in Shropshire

Lyth Hill sits just outside Shrewsbury facing south with views of Caer Caradoc and the Long Mynd.
There are two carparks at the top of Lyth Hill. This route goes from the first carpark as you approach from Bayston Hill, though the walk will work equally well if you park at the other carpark.

This walk takes you up past some of the historic mines in the Shropshire Hills, to a beautifully remote spot where some of the miners made their home.

Womerton Farm Campsite is based on the Long Mynd in Shropshire, with beautiful scenery and plenty of walks on the doorstep.

This walk is a good stretch of the legs, especially if you are stopping for a picnic in the picturesque Inwood valley.

Brow Farm is nestled in the small village of Ratlinghope, which is nestled in a valley within the Long Mynd hills Shropshire: an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. 
Brow Farm is a back-to-basics campsite, with a massive 12-acre camping field, and campfires allowed as long as they are off the ground. 
Although mainly used by tent campers, caravans and motorhomes are welcome, although there are no hardstanding pitches. 
As the campsite is so large, booking isn't required.
Wooden lodges are also available if you don't want to bring your own tent.

Brow Farm in the Shropshire Hills

This is the summit of Stiperstones Manstone Rock, which is part of the Shropshire 3 Peaks Hiking Challenge.

For this walk, you start off at the National Trust car park at Carding Mill Valley. 
There are two car parks. For this walk, it is best to use the upper car park. 

The walk is going to take you about three hours, depending on how many stops you make.
The first part of the route is quite steep, and this is the steepest part of the whole walk.

Wild Moor Walk

Bodbury Ring is an ancient Iron Age hill fort that overlooks Cardingmill Valley, with good views all the way around. The hill fort is believed to be about 500 years old, though there are much older settlements on the Long Mynd, including the Bronze Age trackway that crosses the top of the Mynd.

This walk goes from the National Trust carpark at Cardingmill Valley (charges apply unless you are a National Trust member). Don't park too far up the carpark, as the walk starts near the entrance.
