Our Review

We visited Botany Camping in June 2014 and were really impressed with this fab little campsite.

Firstly, you have three options:

1. Bring your own tent.
2. Hire a bell tent.
3. Go for the full Glamping experience.

The Bell Tents at Botany Camping

One of the great things at Botany Camping is their colourful bell tents, including one that's coloured like a Circus Big Top.

Now if you are one of the many regular readers of this website, you know we love camping. But there are times when taking all that camping gear is just not practical, and that's where these bell tents are great.

We set off Friday evening after work and headed down to this remote Wiltshire campsite. That's about a 3-4 hour trip. It would have been much longer if we'd had the trailer, and even later to bed if we then had to set up camp.

Fortunately, we were able to drive straight down, and get straight into our home for the weekend. No pitching required ;-)

Despite arriving late, the owners were there to greet us. They're very friendly and were around all weekend.

Staying in a Bell Tent

If you go for the Bell Tent option with Botany Camping, you'll get a large bell tent (there were five of us, and lots of room to spare), which is carpeted, plus firewood and an icebox.

You need to bring things like sleeping bags and airbeds/sleeping mats - though unfortunately for me I forgot mine (I'm so used to just taking the trailer with everything packed ready to go), but it wasn't too bad as the floor was carpeted. You'll also want some chairs and/or picnic rug, and some cooking items.

The outskirts of Warminster aren't too far away, so it's easy to buy provisions when you're there, or go further into town and get something to eat.

Botany Camping Facilities

The site facilities are what an estate agent might call 'rustic charm'.

Botany Camping has some environmentally friendly composting toilets, along with an outdoor urinal.

If you think composting toilets aren't your thing, don't be that put off. These aren't bad to use at all (a million times better than some 'porta-loos' I have seen on some campsites).

There's also washing up facilities, showers, and a small on-site shop.

Note: At the time we visited WIFI wasn't yet available at Botany Camping, but it's coming soon. If this is something you need, please check the latest on their website.

The campsite is just around the corner from Longleat Safari & Adventure Park.

If you've not been, it's well worth a visit.

In fact, Botany Camping can sell you some tickets that are** 30% off the park entrance price**, making this a great place to stay and visit the Safari Park.

Also near to the park is Longleat Centerparcs. Normally a Centerparcs weekend break can get quite expensive, and they also run from Friday to Monday. This means if your kids are school age, you cannot stay at Centerparcs in term time (when it's cheaper), unless of course, you miss 2 days of your expensive break (I don't think so!). However, you could stay Friday and Saturday in a Bell Tent or Glamping at Botany Camping, pay for a Day Pass to Centerparcs and use all their fantastic water slides and swimming pools, save some money, and get everyone back to work and school in time on Monday.

Botany Camping is a great place to stay and gets the thumbs up a recommendation from us.
