We're a basic family-run campsite, set on a working farm in Wensleydale.

Our camping fields are set on the edge of the village of Askrigg, where you'll find a playpark, deli, pubs and a small shop. There are many local footpaths and cycle trails, many of them passable with a pushchair.

Many campers are choosing to do sections of the stage1 Tour de France route from 2014.

We're in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, where there's so much to see and do.

Family Wild Camping Experiences

We also provide wild camping experiences, completely off the grid.

Wild Camping Location

It's a beautiful little walled wood - we help with navigation (it's only 1 vertical mile away) and we can transport as much or as little equipment there as required by people. It's child-friendly, we allow campfires and there's so much to do - den building, a small river, bivvying, exploring etc. We even transport people up there by tractor-trailer if they fancy an adventure.

Our Review

Askrigg Camping is just on the edge of the North Yorkshire village of Askrigg. The campsite is actually in a field opposite the farmhouse, directly off the main road.

(Note: caravans can't get onto the site, and neither can large motorhomes; small campervans can fit through the field gate though).

We enjoyed a great stay here, with Heather, the campsite owner, making us really welcome.

The facilities are what you call back to basics with a composting loo and a sink in the field.

If you think that the composting loo will be smelly, then think again. This toilet was great, and even had party lights at night!

Being on a working farm, you can expect some of the animals might come over to check you out.

Animals in the field

This is a working farm and you may share your camp with some animal friends. Kids love this but obviously, dogs are not allowed.

Our Tom soon made friends with the free range chickens that live in the camping field.

And of course, there are free-range eggs too.

Cooking the eggs

Someone was allowed to collect the eggs and then cooked breakfast!

If you want to do a wilder camp, then contact Heather for their wild camping experience.
