Like all Camping Unplugged sites, Abbotstone Wood is committed to family camping in open country with campfires, dogs and of course children. We don’t have set pitches or electrical hook-ups and are tents only. No motor homes or caravans, though we do accept small VW type vans.

Abbotstone Wood is an unspoilt piece of the countryside just North of the charming town of Alresford. Set within The Grange Estate it is a mixture of old woodland and open fields, with lots of opportunities for walking and exploring.

We know that children run wild in the ancient woodlands and fields, and return of an evening exhausted and exhilarated by their activities in this mildly wild countryside. Tablets and smartphones are forgotten and they are happy to sit around a campfire eating food cooked in the very old fashioned way and even talking to their parents

Large Pitch Restrictions

We do not have set pitches at Abbotstone Wood but there are several areas that can be booked for large groups, otherwise, we sort out where would be suitable for you on arrival. We are particularly suited to large groups and you can always camp together with your group. We have lots of space and no restrictions on gazebos, marquees or anything else, what you pay for your camping entitles you to make your own world around your own campfire in the countryside in your own way.

Campfire Details

We believe that campfires are a crucial part of the family camping experience. They are, as we have noted, television for the soul. We have only sensible restrictions on campfires. Foraging for kindling is allowed, oddly popular with children, but big logs from the woods should not be burned for ecological reasons and obviously no branches should be cut from trees (They don’t burn well anyway) We have a fire management note, which you will get on arrival. You are welcome to bring your own wood or logs if you wish, but please no kitchen units or doors. (It has happened) We will ask you to make your fire in an existing fire pit if there is one. We do sell generous bags of seasoned logs at £5 or £10 a bag, which can be delivered or picked up from reception.

Shower Details

We have two sorts of hot showers at Abbotstone Wood and all are free for use by campers. There are 9 ‘posh’ showers in Portakabins, and also a couple of roofed but open-air wooden showers, which are big enough to get your whole family in, well four at least. They are very popular.

Prices

We are open at the Easter weekend and then will run until the end of September. We charge £12.50 per adult per night and £6.00 for a child over three and under sixteen. Under threes are free. We do not charge for dogs, cars, or gazebos. All you will have to pay for is wood and perhaps for the hire of one of our brilliant campfire grills if you should want one. They are a revelation and come from the USA
