RAF Museum, Cosford
The RAF Museum in Cosford, Shropshire, is a great family day out - especially if you have plane mad kid!
Our Review
They have a great selection of aircraft, from pre-WW2, and WW2, through to modern times. Their Cold War hangar is very impressive.
They also have a hands-on educational area that keeps the kids entertained, a flight simulator ride, and a re-creation WW2 house (that has most parents going 'Ah, that's my Gran's house!').
The entrance is free. Yes, FREE. Though you do have to pay to park (£2 for 3 hours, or £3 for 3-8 hours, when we visited), compared to the cost of family entrance to other places, that is very reasonable.

The education area introduces children to the principles of flight in a fun way.

Start 'em young. A 3-year-old flying a Spitfire and doing a good job of it too.

The Cold War hanger is very impressive. Some of the biggest jet aircraft of the era suspended above your head.

Time to refuel at Cosford. There is a cafe not far from here in the Cold War hangar.
As well as a cafe in the Cold War Museum, there is also a cafe at the main entrance.
