Carlisle Castle
This castle has been guarding this spot of Cumbria for about 900 years. But there's a been fortification here for even longer, as the Romans built a large fort here in AD72.
Mary, the Queen of Scots, was held in a tower at Carlisle Castle. You can visit the tower on your visit, and also King Richard III's bedroom.
