iSurf is a mobile surf school, so they can move to where the surf is best. They cater for families with children aged 8 and over for both stand-up paddleboarding and surfing lessons.
We joined iSurf at Compton Bay for a two-hour surf lesson.
I wasn't aware that the Isle of Wight had surf, but they do, and the waves were coming in good at Compton-under-cliff Beach.
Our instructors, Baz and Harry, were very good. The lesson started on the sand with the basic manoeuvres, and then we were soon in the surf trying to put the theory into practice. Baz and Harry were on hand to give plenty of tuition.
Although I've done plenty of bodyboarding and stand-up paddleboarding, I found surfing a little bit more difficult and spent much of the time falling off and in the water.
In the end, I managed to get up onto my knees, but that's cheating, and I should have been on my feet!
Fortunately for our kids, they picked it up quickly.
We really enjoyed our surf lesson, and had huge smiles, despite some of us taking repeated spills into the water! The instructors were great and gave plenty of time to everyone. We gladly give iSurf the thumbs-up.
Facilities DetailsiSurf will email the location of the lesson the evening before. The location changes based on tides, weather, and wave conditions. The meet-up location will typically be a beach carpark. There may not always be toilets at the carpark.
