We stayed at Waterside House Campsite on a busy May Bank Holiday in 2015.
And yes, the campsite was very busy. But then again, so is every campsite in the Lake District during the May Bank Holidays!
We also felt that the peak season prices were a bit high. But again, this is the Lake District, which is extremely popular.
The location was absolutely stunning.
Ullswater may not be as visited as Windermere, but it is a beautiful lake. And not being as crowed, is all the better for it.
A short stroll from the campsite is Pooley Bridge. We found a good family friendly pub there that served good meals.
If you do decide to stay here, we thoroughly recommend that you consider giving this a go.
Planning on visiting Waterside House Campsite? Details below.
Set on the shores of Ullswater, Waterside House Campsite provides great views of this magnificent and classic Lake District scene.
You can either bring your own tent, bring a motorhome, or stay in one of the Tipis by the lake sure. (Sorry, no caravans).
Waterside House is still a working farm. Depending on the time of year you visit, you may see lamps, sheep being dipped, or young calfs in the barn near the campsite shop.
As well as camping, you can also take advantage of being next to Ullswater, and hire rowing boats or Canadian Canoes.
Pitches for Large Family Tents
Waterside House campsite has large camping fields. Camping charges are based on people, not tent sizes. There are additional charges for Awnings/Gazebos.
Waterside House has FREE hot showers.
There’s also a laundrette on site.
Electric Hook Ups
Electric hook-ups are available. However, all EHU pitches are on gravel. There are no grass EHU pitches, and so if you need EHU with your tent, you will need to pitch on the gravel.
WiFi is available, but only at the shop.
Nearby Places to Eat
There’s a walk from the campsite along the lake shore to Pooley Bridge, where you can find a few local family-friendly places to eat.
You can also find a snack bar at the campsite.
