Enjoying our stay at Noirmoutier

Review of Camping Indigo Noirmoutier

GOWTK Tribe Member Anna takes her kids to the French Coast for a stay at Noirmoutier.

I stayed at Camping Indigo Noirmoutier, France with my children (5 and 7) and some of our extended family.

The island was an excellent holiday resort with plenty to do

Noirmoutier is a semi-island off the west coast of France. The island was an excellent holiday resort with plenty to do. We stayed there for just over a week, although we could easily have entertained ourselves for two weeks.

The campsite itself is located on the beach and some of the pitches have gorgeous sea side views. Our pitch was however very shaded as we were pitched further back in the trees. So if your after a sunny spot with a view, I highly recommend you request the sea side pitches. Also, when we went which was August 2015 (peak season), it was a very cramped campsite with little room.

That being said the beach was a lovely sand beach, with a local fisherman coming every day to check his nets, there were rocks for crabbing, gorgeous sand for castle building, seaweed for making face pictures and shells for collecting (oh yes and lovely shallow, calm sea for the kids to swim in).

The campsite also had a restaurant or two (we thoroughly enjoyed the pizzas and Belgian waffles), a shop, boules pitches and an excellent play park. The park also had activities for the children almost every day including crafts, baking, outdoor movie and horse riding. Most of these were free, but some like the horse riding needed buying but even that was reasonably priced. The campsite hired out bikes and kayaks and there was plenty to do offsite too.

The toilet and shower facilities may take some people a bit of getting used to as they were unisex, but it didn’t bother us and was regularly cleaned. There was one traditional hole in the ground… I mean traditional French toilet, but then they had plenty of toilets we Brits are more accustomed too.

we had a brilliant time there and I would recommend it

All in all, I’d say this campsite is a great spot for a family location, although it would be better if the pitches were more spacious. But we had a brilliant time there and I would recommend it.
